I took my first step into the Mac realm when I bought a G3 some years ago. I recently built a custom PC for myself and bought a Mac Mini. I absolutely love the mac os but I cannot deal with the hardware limitations on my G3 and Mini. So, my question is, is it possible to install OS 10.4.8 on my system? Specs:

CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ Socket AM2

Mobo: Biostar TForce 550

GPU: ATi X1950 PRO

RAM: Patriot Signature 1 Gb

PSU: Antec SmartPower 2.0 500 Watt

Western Digital 250 Gb HDD SATA

Yes, that's possible (i can't give you 100 %, but you have supported hardware i think), just try it and let us know!

make sure you download the 10.4.8 AMD DVD! (if you don't know how to install, search the wiki)

It is possible I think although looking at my experiences with my Sapphire X1950 pro you will not get Quartz Extreme and Core Image support at the moment.

If you select the x1000 PCI-E package on the JaS 10.4.8 DVD it will give you resolution change. For QE and CI one will have to edit the ATIRadeonX1000.kext manually. If you do this it will load but most likely give a kernel panic like was reported by me and others on this forum.

Welcome to the club and lots of success!
