I went out today and bought a GeForce FX 5200 (256MB, AGP) graphics card today, and when I plug it alongside my already existing GeForce FX 5500 (128MB, PCI) card, OSX won't start. It just hangs there when it gets to the part where it starts the loginwindow. If I unplug my FX 5500 card, all is well. However, I would like to know if there is a way I can have this working without having to unplug my 5500, because I use my 5500 for my television on Windows (I watch DVDs, AVIs, and so on).

Just for the sake of it, here are my hardware/software details:

  • Motherboard: Biostar P4M80-M4 (VIA)
  • Processor: Intel Pentium 4 3.0E (Prescott, supports SSE3)
  • Memory: 1.0GB (1x DDR400 3200)
  • Harddrives: 2x IDE drives (80GB Samsung HDD [80GB NTFS], 250GB Hitachi HDD [180GB HFS+, 2GB ext2, 2GB linux-swap, 66GB ext3])
  • CD/DVD-ROM: 1x MadDog DVD-RW, 1x Samsung CDRW/DVD-ROM
  • Graphics: 1x Conquerer GeForce FX 5200 (256MB, AGP), 1x eVGA e-GeForce FX 5500 (128MB, PCI)
  • Displays: Samsung SyncMaster 703s (CRT, GeForce FX 5200), Goldstar Cinemaster Television(CRT, GeForce FX 5500)
  • Installation: JaS OSX 10.4.8 Intel SSE3

First of all, i doubt ur gonna get any support on osx with dual graphics cards on a pc. Also, if you plan to use dual graphic cards, they must be of the same series. I installed two 5200s in my friends comp so he can have 4 monitors.

I don't want to use dual screens, but I want to leave both graphics cards plugged in. I don't want to unplug any of them. I want to have OSX only use ONE of my graphics cards.

And btw, that's not true, you can use dual monitors on dual graphics with different video cards, unless you're talking about just OSX.

EDIT: Maybe I can get Natit to not detect my FX 5500 somehow?
