drd21
Ive installed a new hitachi 250gb hd into my well running amd system. then i tried to partition the hd (1 partition, hfs+ journaled, guid). after the sucess message ive tried to mount the partition however no chance. so ive tried to delete it with disk utitlity but since than, disk utility always hangs on creating partition table. windows drive management recognizes it as gpd-protected. techtoolspro finds 4 defect sectors and exits with an error at the end of disk checking. i simply dont know what to do to else toreformat the drive and use it. Rammjet
Hackintosh has BIOS which expects MBR. Try partitioning the drive again and click the Options button and select MBR. cat_7
Hi, I had the same problem. If I remember correctly, gpd-protected drives can not be partitioned with disk utility. You need to use windows to change the partition type first. But I could be wrong.... Best wishes Cat_7 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/36221-disk-utility-stalls-on-250gb-pata-disk/#findComment-258053 Share on other sites
asap18
yes as ramjet said you cannot use GUID as it is supposed to create an EFI partition which with a BIOS you cannot utilize. drd21
hi there, do i assume correctly that my problem is the hackintosh, cause the bios only reads the mbr of the disk witch protects the disc from beeing altered? ill try to put the disk in a usb case and reformat it with my macbook (powerbook should also work since 10.4.6) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/36221-disk-utility-stalls-on-250gb-pata-disk/#findComment-258589 Share on other sites

drd21
very very strange, it works fine when attached to the hackintosh in the usb enclosure, however if connected directly to ide, it is shown as not paritioned. very strange edit: it doesnt matter if i choose mbr or mac partition scheme Edited December 20, 2006 by drd21 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/36221-disk-utility-stalls-on-250gb-pata-disk/#findComment-258597 Share on other sites
