Seriously do not know what is the problem but I am having a hell of a problem using the USB installer for Sequoia on my currently Gigabyte Z97-HD3 (i4790).

When reaching the Apple Installation steps, I CANNOT see my SSD and along the way, there will be several points on the verbose screen where the machine will wait for several minutes doing something. There is no KP.

The ONLY difference between Ventura and Sequoia is the need for > 16GB USB and the above test was done with the SAME USB drive with 32GB.

Have tried the following:

1. Balena Etcher

2. Command lines

3. OCLP patcher

I do not know how to troubleshoot.

I have tried:

1. LauncherOption = Disable

2. Reflash the BIOS

3. NVRAM reset each time

4. I have used the Apple Installer as well as Olarila's .raw

All have the same problem.

Sata is set to AHCI?

IRQs patch is done?

SATA is set to AHCI

Not sure about IRQ patching but my sleep/wake works perfectly under Ventura.

Essentially I copied the EFI folder from working Ventura to the USB Installer EFI. But the behaviour between Ventura and Sequoia boot sequence verbose using exactly the same process are totally different.

@mengshi Virtually impossible to diagnose without your EFI and knowing your version of Open Core and the versions of Acidanthera kexts.  Your faith in us as mind readers is impressive.

Thanks.

Using OpenCore 1.0.5 (Have tried with No_ACPI). Currently changed back to standard (just in case).... I have LauncherOption=False and do a NVRamClean followed by NVRamReset before using the USB Installer

I am using the installer via the BootPicker

I have a Ventura SSD, an empty SSD for Sequoia installation, USB 32GB (Sandisk).

My last try was just now:

1). Using OCLP to install Apple's Ventura installer App. -> Boots fast and nicely into Ventura installer -> I can see my attached SSD

   2) So I did the 'crazy' thing and deleted the Install macOS Ventura.app on the above USB and replaced it with install macOS Sequoia.app. With this, the installer zips through the verbose screen much faster than all the other above methods that I have tried -> reached the Apple logo and zips through the progress bar but then it displays a grey screen (mouse still active). So I needed to reboot.

At this moment I am re-doing the USB Installer creation using the OCLP patcher using the Install macOS Sequoia.app so will try the above again.

I have noticed a few things with all these installer creation methods (I had previously thought they were mostly identical - just different ways of skinning the cat so to speak), but there are subtle differences that may be important.

1) When doing the USB Installer using Balena Etcher, the amount of space left on the drive reported by Get Info is incorrect. Hence I could not delete the Install macOS Ventura.app and replace it with the Install macOS Sequoia.app. It will report inadequate space even if I emptied the trash.

2) The EFI partition and folders of the USB installer created by OCLP patcher is quite different from the one I am used to from Olarila.

      a) - I am used to this: Under EFI folder > APPLE;> BOOT; >OC folders

      b) With OCLP patcher USB installer creation, it is: EFI and System folders, the under EFI, just OC folder

EFI.zip

Use this EFI z97 Tahoe.zip

-Delete old EFI folder and paste new then empty trash. Don't use merge files.
-Don't use Drag and Drop into EFI partition. Use Copy/Paste instead.
-Reset NVRAM one time - with OpenCore use entry "Reset Nvram" / with Clover use F11 key on boot screen.

Thanks.

OK. Will try later. It is very late here.

Just to update…

Using OCLP Patcher to create the Sequoia USB Installer -> Exactly the same problem as previously.

I get stuck at the verbose screen for quite a few minutes! In fact the last few lines took quite a few minutes:

image.thumb.jpeg.2f14e312112d2a25764cab1d898cf8ab.jpeg

After which I could reach the installation and I go to DiskUtil but do not see other SSD

image.thumb.jpeg.2dcf6b19564fce074a3dc9a1b6f06d73.jpeg

One very annoying thing is that after 1 rebooted and removed the USB drive and try to boot into Ventura at the bookicker, I get this:

image.thumb.jpeg.bdb2ed22c3216e67fd7e288c160d1864.jpeg

This part requires NVRamClean and NVRAMreset to overcome.

I had a look. This one requires Opencore No_ACPI right?

Some Stall in PXSX

I think u used Sata or USB 3party

Use intel Sata and USB ports

Not familiar with above.

The SATA and USB part is just whatever is in the motherboard BIOS. I turned off legacy USB in BIOS.

I do not have any SATA specific kext (I searched SATA under OpenCore Dortania guidelines). I do have RestrictEvents.kext and AppleMCEReporterDisabler.kext

3rd party USB ? - What do you mean by this?

Just tried above Z97Tahoe EFI. Exactly the same problem. I cannot see my SSD during the installation.

What I did:

Created USB Installer using Balena Etcher using your .raw

Copied the above EFI you gave

This produces exactly the same error.

Again it does reach the recovery menu of the Apple installation but I do not see my SSD.

This time I capture the log (In fact I am currently using the Safari in the recovery/installation at the mement).

This is the log:

Sorry @MaLd0n

Still the same issue with the above EFI. Exactly the same problem.

I am beginning to think this generation of chipset has trouble with > 16GB (which is not logical). Same happens when trying with Sonoma.

I will try upgrading from Ventura using the Apple package but it is really a concern if I don't have a back up boot USB.

Successfully upgraded to Sequoia but still unable to create the USB Installer.

During the Sequoia update, I noticed similar PXSX stall messages (quite a few minutes and quite a few times) but it manages to go to the next step.

I also cannot see other SSD or the USB drive.

I have tried @MaLd0n EFI above as well as OpenCore ACPI (SSDT-ED.aml and SSDT-PLUS.aml with RebaseRegions off etc). With standard Opencore as well as Opencore No_ACPI. The result is the same - at the installer recovery menu, I cannot see my SSDs (Will show some screenshots later).

A few things I have noticed :

1. Using command lines sudo etc with createinstallmedia way as per Dortania guide -> The capacity of the USB drive is reported properly (same with OCLP patcher). However if using Balena Etcher this info is incorrect.

2. I have used SecureBootModel with Disabled or j160  = the result is the same

*** 3. Only 2 disks were mentioned in the verbose screen. I think the error that recognised 2 disk happens early. I briefly saw this when I used the Opencore .aml instead of @MaLd0n eft. Too fast to capture but I think it mentioned ACPI power...

I will show some of the screenshots next....

On booting the USB drive. Ventura zips through this part. With Sequoia or Sonoma, there is always a pause, but it goes through to the next.

Then a few minutes of this. I think this means removing orphaned child processes. But it goes through to the next after a few minutes

As above. A few minutes later.....

Then this. It cannot see my other SSDs.

May NOT Be The Problem BUT I Had A Similar Problem, No SSD's

Somehow My Bios Changed The ACHI Setting To Raid

May Pay You To Check Your Bios Settings

Thanks. I checked several times. Still on AHCI. I even tried it on hotplug enabled.

Can share your efi? Perhaps some patches etc that I am not implementing. Not sure.

How about to split a 20GB partition from SSD or HDD to make createinstallmedia installer?

It might work if it can boot to the installer.

Been wondering about this also. Probably worth a try.

So partition SSD - One has to be GUID for the boot and the other will be APFS for the actual installation target.

Yes, GUID = 1*20gb hfs installer + 1*APFS install Tahoe , + many APFS 14.x, 15.x.

You have IOAHCIBlockStorageInjector.kext and CtinaAHCIPort.kext - perhaps I should try these first

How com your config.plist does not have ACPI stuff?

Use this EFI z97 Tahoe.zip

-Delete old EFI folder and paste new then empty trash. Don't use merge files.
-Don't use Drag and Drop into EFI partition. Use Copy/Paste instead.
-Reset NVRAM one time - with OpenCore use entry "Reset Nvram" / with Clover use F11 key on boot screen.

@MaLd0n

How come when I disabled Mald0n.aml in your efi, resetNVRAM, it still boots and has the same error?! No KP etc. (Of course I tried it enabled but I noticed some people's eft have no entry in the ACPI tab so decided to give it a shot). Now I am really confused.... (I have LauncherOption = Full)

AHCI relative kext is good to try it.

I'm lazy to make dsdt.aml stuff on pc cause of it can boot without any ssdt dsdt.

, but I have to put dsdt.aml on my acer nb otherwise it can't boot mac.
