According to Bloomberg, Apple is about to operate a new rebrand of its major operating systems (OS). At least, it's one of the most circulating rumors right before WWDC.

Apple reportedly won't release macOS 16 this fall, but macOS 26, referring to the year 2026. The change would also apply to the brand's other systems: iPadOS 26, iOS 26, watchOS 26, tvOS 26 and visionOS 26.

This (number) name change could be made official as early as WWDC 2025, which begins, as a reminder, on June 9.

@fantomas, if so, the next macOS 26 will not support Intel processors. But we may get support for Sequoia for a year longer than usual. Although, it is probably better to wait for official information than to give in to speculation...

Specifically, we were told that pre-release versions of macOS 26 are compatible with the following Mac configurations:

  • MacBook Pro 2019 or later
  • MacBook Air M1 or later
  • iMac 2020 or later
  • Mac Pro 2019 or later
  • Mac mini M1 or later
  • Mac Studio — All models

But we'll find out for sure soon enough!

With only a few weeks to know the new name and number of the Mac operating system between 26 and 16 and comparing it with the previous system it seems that we are left without the iMac19.1 and the worst thing is the use of the iMacpro1.1 that is used in many cooked EFI here is the comparison with Sequoia
