tobrien1954
Hi, new member Tony here. I have built 4 hackintoshs over the course of a couple years; enjoy ... but can be very frustrated by... this activity. And I find that this sort of forum with all the combined knowledge a GREAT help. Suppose I were to start a new build and had H/W compatibility questions which forum would be the most appropriate? or for OpenCore / EFI / boot loader / installer questions; which forum then? Thanks for any help you can offer ! tob Quote Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/358895-hello/ Share on other sites
Cyberdevs
@tobrien1954 Hello and welcome to InsanelyMac.com you can start here and post your questions about the specs that you want to build your new rig. I also suggest to create a signature with your hardware specs so people can help you easier. Here's a guide on how to add a signature: 2 Quote Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/358895-hello/#findComment-2817669 Share on other sites
miliuco
@tobrien1954 You are very welcome. First 6 post must go in this forum. Afterwards you can post in any forum. Look at the list of forums, there are places to choice. Installation forums (Sonoma, Ventura... childs): to post questions or doubts related with the selected macOS to be installed. Developers Corner >< Bootloaders >> OpenCore to ask about OpenCore. Don't forget to read the guides by the OpenCore developers: https://dortania.github.io/OpenCore-Install-Guide/ 1 Quote Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/358895-hello/#findComment-2817670 Share on other sites

tobrien1954
As a new member here and a new build to soon start, it made me wonder... With the h/w I have is there any reason I should limit the OS to Ventura? Would SONOMA, for example, be a good choice for this combination? My main concern is that would I need an external graphics card too? I'd like to use the onboard Intel graphics. ASUS Prime H570M-PLUS/CSM LGA1200 (Intel 11th/10th Gen) MicroATX Core i5-10600K thanks ! Slice
For my experience Sonoma is better than Ventura. System responsibility in particular. 1 Quote Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/358895-hello/#findComment-2817677 Share on other sites
miliuco
@tobrien1954 Looking at the specifications, I don't see any significant incompatibilities with macOS Ventura or Sonoma. This mother board supports 2 CPU families, they have advantages and disadvantages: 10th gen.: you can use the integrated graphics card and it is not mandatory to buy a compatible AMD graphics card (but it can be purchased and used to increase the graphics power) / it has lower performance (but sufficient) and takes less advantage of some motherboard features 11th gen.: does NOT support the integrated graphics card which is incompatible with macOS, it is mandatory to buy a compatible AMD one / it has higher performance and takes better advantage of some of the motherboard's features. The CPU you have choosen is okey. Quote Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/358895-hello/#findComment-2817687 Share on other sites
Anto65
I wouldn't be so sure, from 500 series and up there are problems activating the integrated Example in macos86.it GIGABYTE B560M + i5 10400 Other example h570m + i5 10600k https://www.reddit.com/r/hackintosh/comments/mmoagv/anyone_hack_successful_on_b560m_itxac_with_i5/ Edited March 5, 2024 by Antonuccio 1 1 Quote Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/358895-hello/#findComment-2817694 Share on other sites
tobrien1954
Thanks, guys ... The Core i5-10600K and the ASUS Prime H570M-PLUS/CSM LGA1200 (Intel 11th/10th Gen) MicroATX are givens as they are already purchased. The ASUS website indicates that this CPU is compatible. But after reading your responses I realized *why* I had chosen Ventura ... I am also using a FENVI T919 for WiFi ... which I have read needs a bit of EXTA attention to get working on Sonoma. I also happen to have a Gigabyte Geforce GTX 1050 2GB GDDR5 128 Bit PCI-E Graphic Card (GV-N1050D5-2GD) which I have read is not supported after Sierra; so can't be used with my Ventura build. Soooooooo if a graphics card is absolutely necessary (for Ventura on that 10th Gen mobo) (i.e. the on-board will not work) , then I may build SIERRA and use that graphics card. Mr Miliuco - thank you so much for the details regarding OpenCore and your offerings! Last question -- The INTEL site says that my CPU is COMET LAKE -- can I trust that and use a COMET LAKE base for my OpenCore EFI? miliuco
@tobrien1954 Yes, your CPU is Comet Lake. @Antonuccio I fotgot that series 500 motherboards have serious issues with 10th gen iGPUs, different behaviour to 400 series motherboards. Anto65
Correct, but it works on 400 MB series not 500 ... 1 Quote Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/358895-hello/#findComment-2817731 Share on other sites

tobrien1954
I think I can help resolve this with what I think is a good setup based upon all the previous "gotchas" The stake in the ground is already purchased Core i5-10600K, and ASUS Prime H570M-PLUS/CSM LGA1200 , FENVI FV-T919 The gotchas are onboard graphics limitations, poor FENVI support on Sonoma. So Core i5, ASUS Prime H570M-PLUS RX560s for 50 bucks FENVI WiFi VENTURA The newest wrinkle is the cheap Graphics card to allow Ventura to operate on the rev500 mobo Quote Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/358895-hello/#findComment-2817745 Share on other sites
miliuco
@Slice From everything I've read so far, I haven't found success with Comet Lake iGPU on 500 series boards. The reason is most likely that Intel Macs never used 500 series chipsets. @Antonuccio +1 1 Quote Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/358895-hello/#findComment-2817748 Share on other sites
miliuco
@tobrien1954 You can stay in Ventura, it is a system that works very well although many users report that Sonoma works very fast and fluid. Fenvi T919 performs equally well in Ventura and Sonoma, it performs no worse in Sonoma. The problem is that in Ventura it works as is, automatically installed by macOS, and in Sonoma it requires a special setting in config.plist, adding kexts and applying root patches with OCLP. It is a task that must be repeated with each update or installation. RX 560 is well supported by macOS, only requirement is WhateverGreen.kext. There is a small size card suitable for ITX boards, AMD Radeon Pro WX4100, it also works very well on macOS and is more powerful than the RX 560 but is usually more expensive. If you find a cheap one, €120 maximum, it can be a good choice for the motherboard and CPU you have. tobrien1954
But but but ..... The Core i5-10600K is listed on the Prime H570 - PLUS as being supported. So are saying that that combination won't work with VENTURA? Or It's a kext-nightmare to try to get a working EFI for that combination? p.s Thanks, Again! for your time on this. I guess I am trying to determine if i really need to get a 400 series Quote Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/358895-hello/#findComment-2817779 Share on other sites
tobrien1954
After my last post I went out looking for... 400 series Core i5 compatible Micro-ATX DDR4 x 4 And in (at last) the 2 typical places AMAZON, EBay, and NewEGG, there is nothing except RIDICULOUS $$$ and USED. Is there anything to be done about it? Or do I just byte-the-bullet and get a used mobo? thanks ! tony Quote Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/358895-hello/#findComment-2817780 Share on other sites
tobrien1954
I just found this --- ASUS PRIME H470M-PLUS Motherboard Intel H470 LGA 1200 DDR4 M.2 mATX Which appears to be the baby brother of my H570 ... Slice
When there is an observation that CometLake graphics is not working on 5xx chipset then it should be taking into account the experience of the user. Users of 4xx chipset have the same issues as well. 1 Quote Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/358895-hello/#findComment-2817798 Share on other sites
