Hi everyone,

I have a fully functional Comet lake Hackintosh with the exception of the touchscreen. But, I have a question about smbios. My laptop is a Samsung flex a with a 13.3” screen. The guide I followed said to use smbios for a MacBook Pro 16,1 which is a 16” screen. When I try to use the smbios for the 1Macbook pro 16,3 which is for a 13” screen it breaks Bluetooth. Does it really matter? Should I not worry about it if everything is working properly? Or do the screen sizes need to match?

Hi MikeM,

In general you should match the SMBIOS to the CPU and GPU specs not the screen size which results to the most compatible power management and if one SMBIOS settings is working better than the others then you can use it.

There is another reason to choose the SMBIOS different than your hardware and that's where you want to install macOS that it's not supported by your hardware like installing macOS Sonoma on computers with older hardware for instance if you use MacBookPro14.x you won't be able to boot macOS Sonoma installer but if you choose MacBookPro15,x or 16,x the OS installer will boot.

One thing to consider when using a Laptop is the EDID which relates to the display settings but you can over ride that settings by generating the correct information using tools such as Hackintool.

It's the general idea principal of choosing the SMBIOS settings for your hackintosh.

@MikeM I would use the SMBIOS which allows Bluetooth to work. I had the same issue on my IvyBridge Notebook as well, where BT wouldn't work when using MacBookPro9,x but worked when using MBP10,x. The rest is handled by the correct Framebufferpatch for your iGPU anyway. When it comes to framebuffer patches for Laptops, you shouldn't rely on the OpenCore Install guide alone but also cross-reference alternatives listes in the Intel HD FAQs.

I decide to stay with what the guide said, which is MacBook Pro 16,1. However, after a reboot, black screen when opening the lid. Patched everything and followed all the guides but no luck. Downloaded amphetemine and it is working. Question is, what does amphetemine do? Is it something I can imitate?
