HP Z800 Open core install. I can't get the Open Core USB to boot even though it shows in bios, please can anyone help me?

Hello,

I'm fairly new here and I'm trying to update my old clover Sierra build (HP Z800) to a newer Monterey/Ventura Open Core build.

I've found a few guides for my model of computer and have EFI etc.

I've installed the OS X to the USB Stick using Balena Etcher, and copied over the EFI folder inside of the Root EFI drive on the USB Stick.

I've changed the config.plist serial number, and have also checked the config file with OC Auxilary tools after updating kexts and OC versions and all looks fine.

No matter what I do though, my computer will not boot from the USB Open Core installer? I've tried different USB sticks and still no luck.

I'm completely stuck. Is this to do with UEFI and legacy boot?  Any help would be greatfully received.

I can boot fine from my old clover Sierra install USB which I still have as a backup to test.

Thanks if anyone can help

Hi there!

I am happy to assist. But before we begin, we need to establish what equipment you have so can you please list out the exact specs of your system?
I understand it is a Xeon system, but what version and also which chipset is the CPU & motherboard? ie. Sandy Bridge/Ivy Bridge? Also which DGPU

(dedicated GPU) are you using? Is it Nvidia Quadro or ATI/AMD? These are important info that will help us all immensely (in determining what can/can't be done).

after install legacy boot, you can mount your EFI partition and then move your EFI folder to EFI partition. hope this help you.

1.use OpenCore 0.9 Utilities ==>LegacyBoot =>BootInstall_X64 =>open with terminal

2.use apple Disk Utilities to check your UBS#

3.enter your USB # in terminal, when it finish

4. mount your EFI partition, you should see Boot, if it does not saw repeat #1

I'm so sorry I only just saw these replies to my original post today. I was waiting on getting my AMD Sapphire RX 580 GPU delivered.

I had already tried what did what you described (making legacy boot and mounting EFI and copying over EFI folder inside root EFI drive, and still not working.

Once again when I select Install MacOS Ventura, at begins installing showing Apple logo and the screen goes black when about a quarter of the way through.

Could this maybe be a bios setting? I've tried multiple EFI's from this site (for both Monterey + Ventura installs on Z800) and I have the same issue (screen goes black shortly after seeing Apple logo).

Any help would be really appreciated. (I might try a different USB stick to install).

Just to add, I have a HP Z800 workstation with 2 Intel Xeon E5630 CPU (Westmere / Nehalem), I am unsure of the motherboard, it's just a the standard Dual Socket LGA1366 Workstation DDR3 Motherboard which comes with this computer. I have 28GB of Ram.

A Sapphire Radeon RX 580 GPU (Mac compliant)

BCM94360CS2 Wifi Card and PCI Express Adaptor (Mac Compliant)

I've also tried unplugging the wi-fi card during install and no improvment.

I will try installing to another hard drive later (maybe it's an issue with my SSD)
