Dellius
Two days ago I installed successfuly OS X 1.4.6 HOTiSO and made a native boot. As soon as I logged on to the system, I was amased by the functionality, security and simplicity of this OS. However, problems started coming fast but inevitably. One of the most annoying things I had to deal with was the choise of a good browser. I thought at first that Safari will do the job since it is a very basic part of an $2000 woth OS. WRONG! Safari misses tabulation, various compatibility problems occured one after another and best of all - it crashesh often for no reason. Besides pages look extremely ugly in it. Even Apple's site looks bad (how ironic, huh?) THUS I looked around for alternatives. Here is what I tested and what are my impressions and final conclusions: At first I came back to what I knew from Windows: Opera: Bad look, some minor compatibility issues but nothing that can spoil one's mood. Speed is superb. However, I just couldn't keep something so bad looking on my computer for long. IE 5: Good compatibility, awful look, no tabulation, slow page load times. However I still prefer it before Opera which just looks bad! Firefox: Fair compatibility, fair look but when it comes to openning pages with other encodings and fonts different then English / Western it is definetly not my choice. Still, some pages are incompatible and look terrible. Yet it was a good alternative to use on my way to finding a better browser. Definetly better then IE and Opera, I liked it for a while. Seamonky: This one just came and went straight to the trash. Nothing more different then Firefox except for the ugly skin and the big pack of useless add-ons. Anyway if you like multifunctional suits this one is for you since you can apply some skins on it and fix it to look farely well. OmniWeb: How dare they want $30 for something so bad working. Bad compatibility, still perfect design. Obviously this one was written only for decorative purposes. As long as I prefer to browse pages, I trashed it immediately. Camino: Good concept, perfect design, perfect compatibility. Supports tabulation, high level of customisation, yet remains extremely simple to operate. Definetly my choice for web! Sites look more then good in it and even bad written sites that normally would work badly under IE here open farely well. This is my choice for now and forth for browsing the web. Conclusion: Camino is definetly the best looking and best working browser. Pages load fast and look good! Excellent compatibility, perfect functionality, high level of customization and simplicity of use make this browser an excellet choice for everybody who likes things that just look good and work good! Still it's hard to choose a best of the best browser since everybody has a personal taste and understandings about browsing the web. I am not the one to tell you which browser to use since I am a newbie myself and it would be more then rediculous to teach people with more experience then me. Yet I share my impressions in orther to help other newbies like me to choose a browser quickly and more painlessly then I had to. I hope my writings would be of use for somebody out there. It seems all browsers I tried (safari, firefox) are slower than firefox or IE in my windows. helios
You can always find a skin for Opera that might make it a little better looking. Opera gets my vote.
