moriteri
Actually this is more of a question than a guide. I'd like everyone to share their experiences on the issue. I got a Toshiba M100 series notebook and the wireless card installed on it is intel 3945abg. As everyone knows, this is not compatible with MacOs. So I went and got myself a Dell Wireless 1390 (Broadcom chipped) which is known to be working very nicely in MacOS. However, I can't get it to work. I booted onto WinXP, installed the drivers and the wifi manager says that the card has been recognized but it has been "switched off". And my wifi button doesn't work neither (the led doesn't light up) I've tried flashing the latest BIOS and didn't work, so I went and installed the first BIOS published, and that didn't work neither. So I'm stuck. Anyone know how to overcome this compatibility issue? Actually we could even make a guide for all the notebooks with MiniPCI Wifi card compatibility issues. I know that HP don't accept most cards neither... jziggy618
I just ordered my 1390 for a Satallite a105. In my research, someone mentioned this problem. I can't remember where the post was, but try removing the card and putting the 3945 card back in. Turn the switch on and boot up the laptop. Shut it down with the switch on. Put the 1390 card back in with the switch still on. Restart. Based on what I read, you can't turn it off now, but it should work. errandwolfe
I would suggest you all take a look at these two on going threads. To the best of my knowledge, no one has successfully gotten a Broadcom 4311 based mini-PCI E EXPRESS (and I do stress Express) working. Those with Broadcom 4311 based card on standard mini-PCI do not seem to suffer from this problem. It does not appear to be an issue with power, it seems much more likely that it is an issue with the mini-PCI Express slot itself. Please feel free to join the discussion on either of these threads.
