Ok, I want to customize an install DVD for myself with kexts that I need for a native SATA install...I would like to add silicon image kexts to my install DVD to use at boot so I can install to a SATA disk without having to use CarbonCopyCloner or similar to copy over a full install to a sata drive after its installed. Any thoughts?

BTW, I searched and came up with nothing. If there is a post somewhere, I would appreciate knowing about it.

Thanks,

joneSi

No kexts on DVD. Everything is stored in Extensions.mkext

mkextunpack

kextcache

I don't necessarily follow. I need to 'mkextunpack'? Then a kextcache?? Is there somewhere I should look to find the info?

I suppose I should search for mkextunpack. Be right back.

TIA,

joneSi

They are Terminal commands. As I said, there is only a cache on DVD, no kexts. You use the first command to unpack the cache and you use the 2nd command to build a cache.

Like all Terminal commands, to get help, type: man mkextunpack

Ramm...

I searched and found how to make the DVD from another working operating system. You've got me pointed in the right direction. Thanks for the help!

I am trying to make JAS DVD 10.4.8 into a dvd that will boot on my laptop

\This is a great version that has always worked b4 until now I have a 43491002 IDE controller however I have managed to unpack the kext files as suggested to a seperate folder and found appleGenericeATA.kext (deleted from directory)there as well which causes conflict which my IDE device

What I would like to know is the exact command for kextcache to rebuild the directory I have saved these files to as usually using this command will update the extenstions.mkext file within leopard which I DONT WANT

I only need this because for some reason JAS 10.4.8 automaticly loads the .kext file I dont want first ignoring the second ( kalway in 10.5.2 does not ) however as my laptop is older I have come to the conclusion 10.5.x is not fully supported even using kext files from 10.4.x help some thing but crashed others so I want to try a full 10.4.8 system to start

( does having EFI _V8 make this more difficult )
