I have a C2D MacBook Pro. On my Windows PC, I used a stereo headset (two minijacks) with Skype. So I tried to do this with my MBP.

Skype goes on fine, only problem is that I can't get the headset mic to work properly. It's plugged into the line-in port, but even with the input volume turned all the way up I get no indication of any sound input.

I went and plugged the headset back into my Windoze PC and it works fine. This same thing has happened with two different headsets. I assume the line-in port works, because when I plug the mic in the input level jumps a bit then goes right back down.

Is there any way to up the line-in volume on a MBP any farther than it normally goes? Thanks in advance.

I never got sound input from a cheap pc microphone or headset with any mac I've ever used. It is because of the impedance. Check your detailed audio specs and buy a microphone that has the impedance stated in there.

Oh. Didn't know macs and pcs had a difference in impedance. Anyway, I bought a Logitech USB desktop mic and it works fine, serves my purposes. Thanks for the info.

Question: Where would I find the impedance? Is it in System Profiler?

No, no.. It's not in the system profiler. I couldn't find it on Apple's site, but it must be supplied with the printed documentation of your MBP. Basically, any microphone that works with your HiFi system should work with your mac :hysterical:
