Whatevergreen Questions Regarding Switches or Argument Statements

The switch or argments I have concerns and questions for regarding

HD 5500 Intel GPU.

igfxagdc=0  (Graphics sleep) what are the other switches?  0 and 1 only?  maybe 2 and above 2?

-igfxcdc

-igfxcdc boot argument (enable-cdclk-frequency-fix property) to support all valid Core Display Clock (CDCLK) frequencies on ICL platforms.

Are these good to set for this display?  or do they mess things up?

You need to read the WEG user manual with all due care...

  • igfxagdc is a boolean (manual says it enables/disables AGDC)
  • -igfxcdc is for ICL platforms (is HD5500 an iGPU of Ice Lake platform ?)

'never saw any need for 1st boot arg on BDW graphics.

I see ICL is Ice Lake. Thanks Herve!

Shouldn't they like write it out at least?

I've read the WEG many times.

ICL, KBL, JOBL,

If you've read the manual many times, you should not have missed that:

  • SNB is for SaNdy Bridge
  • Capri is for Ivy Bridge
  • Azul is for Haswell
  • BDW is for BroaDWell
  • SKL is for SKyLake
  • KBL is for KaBy Lake
  • ABL is for AmBer Lake
  • CFL is for CoFfee Lake
  • CML is for CoMet Lake
  • ICL is for ICe Lake

i.e. name of the associated framebuffer kexts (except for those that do not have their own dedicated FBs of course)...

As a recap:

AppleIntelIntegratedFramebuffer.kext    -> GMA 950
AppleIntelGMAX3100FB.kext               -> GMA X3100
AppleIntelHDGraphicsFB -> Arrandale 1st gen Intel HD
AppleIntelSNBGraphicsFB.kext            -> Sandy Bridge HD2000/HD3000
AppleIntelFramebufferCapri.kext         -> Ivy Bridge HD2500/HD4000
AppleIntelFramebufferAzul.kext          -> Haswell HD4200/HD4400/HD4600/etc.
AppleIntelBDWGraphicsFramebuffer.kext   -> Broadwell HD5x00/etc.
AppleIntelSKLGraphicsFramebuffer.kext   -> Skylake HD515/HD520/HD530/etc.
AppleIntelKBLGraphicsFramebuffer.kext   -> Kaby Lake (+R)/Amber Lake HD615/HD620/HD630/etc. + UHD617/UHD620
AppleIntelCFLGraphicsFramebuffer.kext   -> Coffee Lake (+R)/Whiskey Lake/Comet Lake (+R) UHD620/UHD630
AppleIntelICLLPGraphicsFramebuffer.kext -> Ice Lake UHD G1/Iris Plus G4/G7

@Hervé

Thank you! This was of great concern to me trying to understand all the 'XXX'

What i mean is Index on Top  of these pages.

ie., Reference page with all these listed and can be dwnld somewhere

if there is I missed it and apologize

References are most important.

And there are tons of configuring. it really takes a long read and time.

But when in a hurry for fix, sometimes the animosity gets the better of us.

Lose focus.

a pdf that has all the platforms and their shortnames.

If wasn't for people like you and those nice people like youself would be scambing around and hoping what they are reading

for their hardware is correct.  The oh, oh, is this correct? I'm reading it and I see my hardware but I don't see the 'ICL' named

anywhere on my hardware.  it says Skylake or Sandybridge or the others.

Totally cool though!

Thank you!
