After a good while away from building Hack's (mainly as my last build just worked) I recently set about trying to do a budget/mini build using Mini-ITX motherboard.

Build is listed in the Sig, but for completeness:

Gigabyte GA-Z170N-Gaming5 R23f BIOS

Intel KabyLake I5 7550 3.4 Ghz CPU

Arctic cooler Fan

Intel HD630 Integrated GFX

16 GB HyperX Fury 3200 DDR4 RAM

Western Digital M.2 SATA 1TB

OWC Mercury Auro Pro 512MB SSD

In Catalina, I had everything but Wifi working - have a few niggles to iron out in Big Sur...........

First thing I learnt was how much Clover (and Opencore) have come on in the last year or so - driven by the changes to MacOS, I guess.  Thanks to some pointers from guys over on the Catalina Installation sub-forum, and especially @5T33Z0, I managed to get my Catalina build running and then over to Big Sur

Uh-oh - I got hit with the dreaded USB challenge as I subsequently discovered that 11.3 screwed up the USB settings.  Luckily, I have trackpad and wireless keyboard.  I've tried the Hackintool approach, then using the USBMap script, but still havent got it sorted yet.

Still to fix then:

  • USB ports
  • Audio - haven't properly dug into this yet
  • Wifi - although initial research suggests that it is unfixable unless I use another wifi adapter?....

The big one for me is fixing USB - I only have 6 USB ports on the box (4 rear 2 front).  Can anyone shed any light where I might be going wrong?

I've attached my EFI folder if it helps??

@bobble999 In info.plist of USB port kext, change model according to the one you use for  big sur. I think, you can also add another one, like this: iMac18,3;iMac19,1;iMac20,1 ect. Maybe it has to be seperated by commas, I cant remember. Long story short: the model has to match the one used in SMBIOS in "Product Name"

That was already there and correct?  Is there another element ?I need to look for??

Another point to clarify - I can see USB thumb drives (USB3), but not USB2 - nor iphone, keyboard, etc.
