386dx
I am planning to buy an USB webcam with a built in mic (to solve the sound-in problem). Any suggestions of fully working one with 10.4.8 ? THX Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/34477-working-usb-webcam/ Share on other sites

zef
Thanks macgirl iSight is too expensive, and i don't know if it works under XP too because i am using dual boot OSX-WinXP Look here http://webcam-osx.sourceforge.net/cameras/index.php and check the 'Status' column and the ones which has UVC (USB Video Class) support they should work in OS X without any drivers installed (even macam). I have a new Logitech QuickCam Pro 5000 webcam with the 0x08ce prod. id and now i have a working USB Microphone and Camera. dvil
The Logitech Quickcam pro 5000 works fine in Tiger and Leopard with no additional driver required, I'm using it now, camera and microphone are recognized with out problem, or look for any webcam UVC compatible they may work with out the need of additional driver. Edit: Check for windows vista compatible in the box, some old versions of the webcam are not UVC (USB video class) supported. dvil
does the quickcam pro 5000 work in iChat? the camera AND microphone? Yes both of them work on iChat, Skype, Photobooth, etc., USB support on iChat was added with 10.4.10 I think. Not all the Quickcam 5000 are compatible, you need to look for one UVC compliant, basically if it's Vista compatible - check the box - is UVC compliant. Cheers.
