Although i am trying to do a fresh install on my desktop system the system has worked previously fairly easily but now when i choose the disk to install macOS too the installer does not continue, it just kicks me back to the menu screen.

Which system is this on in your signature? The laptop or desktop?

Which USB kext(s) are you using?

and last question out of curiousity, OpenCore or Clover not that it probably matters.

Desktop.

Clover.

No USB kexts.

I can get into the installer but....

Whats happening is i choose install macOS from the macOS Utilities screen, click continue, then continue again, then agree, agree, i select my disk and click install then it just kicks me back to the macOS Utilities screen.

This rig has had macOS installed previously and never given this much grief.
I've tried using my usual nvme drive and an SSD.

Long shot but check Ram sticks are seated properly, maybe remove just leaving one? anything is possible at this stage.

Others are also facing the same issue.

Ahhh - Now that is indeed strange. I dare say you don't have a usb installer with a copy of the last Catalina before the update or even one with Mojave just to see if there is a bug with this edition on some machines, a PITA I know, just a case of eliminating possible causes.

Downloading Mojave as we speak and an internet recovery for Catalina just in case that helps.

Ok fingers crossed :thumbsup_anim:

So far no joy, internet install (Mojave) was going too slow so I aborted. Tried 10.15.3 with same results. One thing to note is on the macOS utilities screen I can see a battery indicator in the top right. My smbios is iMac17,1 so it shouldn’t be there and it isn’t with Mojave just Catalina.

I noticed this too and was thinking maybe it was from my UPS connected but it wasn't.

I have had the exact same issues as you and am not sure of where to go next.  I'm trying to stay with opencore and Catalina if possible but could make do with Mojave if that was known to work.

Also the error I'm getting is

I’m going to try Mojave today, will post results.
Also I’ve tried opencore and clover both with same results on Catalina.

I’ll try as well. Do I need to make a whole new EFI folder? Or should the open court method for Catalina work for Mojave

Should still work the same. I’m using clover so I’m unsure.
I’m going to try update to Catalina from Mojave.

Ok so here’s what I did. Your mileage at vary.

I installed Mojave to a spare SSD in my pc which was working great. I then downloaded Catalina and installed it to my nvme drive where I wanted it in the first place and bam lol working fine. Installing from USB did not want to work but using the installer from Mojave to install to a seperate drive worked just fine. Got me beat on why it was like that but I got it going in the end.

Update:

It seems the issue is related to my Corsair commander pro, it is being detected as a UPS even after disabling it (SSDT-UIAC / USBPorts.kext)

Would I need to clear nvram to clean out old devices?

1.  I had issues with getting opencore and mojave to play nicely. I'm strongly considering just going back to clover for the time being but that's good to know!

2.  I have the commander pro as well and have had issues with it preventing sleep and other glitches in the past. I leave it disconnected from the USB header usually, as everything it needs to do its just is stored in non-volatile memory.  I only plug it in to make configuration changes on the Windows side.
