I have osx up and running on my gateway9310xl but I cant view any of the images i had previously installed on my 80gig seagate external HD or am I able to get online. When I go through internet setup its just giving me the option of creating a dial up connection, but Im an existing Cable subscriber..... Keep in mind the HD with the pics was not the HD I chose to run osx on.... Within my pc are *2 250GB Hitachi HD's, and it is on the blank one did I put the osx on. In the manual I read, it stated to unplug primary os drive and plug secondary (osx drive) as primary.... Once done I left primary HD (windows os) wire unplugged all together, (could this be the problem) and now i cant get on safari or view all my pics..... HELP HELP HELP SOMEBODY PLEASE HELP........................

Please do more reading on compatible hardware and installation tips:

This is not something easily done by a novice. It requires a lot of reading and learning and patience.

Your hardware chipset is compatible but your video, sound and lan may not, hence your internet connection problem.

I guess I can be the novice while you play expert this time.. My question had no reference to levels of experience but how to correct my problem.. I've been working at this for a week now and I have already checked and double checked compatability features prior to install, onece again this is not the prob. All aspects of my PC are compatible with installation, but my internet access has been wacked... Thanx anyway for the link....... I sit and read and read and read peoples post all day, and the responses that are submitted, and I can say this one is "one-of-a-kind"

No offense about the novice part but there are people here who have installed OSX86 more than 50x, and knows what works.

Why don't you look up what your network card is and find out if it is compatible: left click on the top left edge of OSX86, About this Mac, get more info, and look under network to see if it is listed as en0, and see if you get an IP address etc.

If you read the HCL , you will find that some Intel gigabit require kext editing to work right. Or just get a Realtek 8139 PCI network card and plug it in.

"Thanx-amillion" for your concern and compassion in helping me correct my problem, no hard feelings about the comment made earlier. Before I installed osx onto my pc I recalled my network card as being some sort of Marvell Yukon Gigabit-Ethernet Controller, I did see a couple of these on the "incompatible list" but Im not quit sure if mine is one, although I do thik its the Marvell Yukon 88E8001 OnBoard Gigabit-Ethernet Controller. I took your advice with going "about this mac-more info-network) When the page loads it does show BSD Device name as en0. Would you mind sharing any info on uninstalling and reinstalling? thanx

Your best best is to buy (such as Newegg.com) a Realtek 8139 PCI card or even Ebay an older card such as the 3Com 3c905 PCI that is supported and plug it in. It shouldn't cost more than $20 shipped.

If there is no driver for the Marvell, it is not likely to come soon.

Cheers

  • 5 months later...

I got the Realtek 8139D plugged inand put it in ALL 6 of my PCI ports and it still says network is disconnected.

I got os 10.4.4I got the BSD Device name of en0

However I remember entering all this info somewhere on the computer but cant remember where.

Any other help would be greatly appreciated as I indead got a realtek 8139D card as specified. I also have a 3COM 3C905B-TX card that doesnt work either.

THanks peeps.

Jon
