Detosx
I have had no joy getting Jas 10.4.8 install DVD to see my Sata drive (either a Western Digital or Seagate). I get to disk utilities and go to set the formatting preferences, etc, but neither drive, tried seperately, is visible. Oddly, a Linux SUSE install DVD, from some six months ago, doesn't see the drive either, and nor does a bootable Linux-based partition CD, which prompts me to pick the right driver from a list, but none of the listed ones make it visible. . No such problems with Windows. Suggestions welcome! The motherboard is the Asus P5VD2-MX and I am using the latest bios revision. Edit: If the Sata controller on the MB isn't compatible (it's a VIA VT8237A), can I use a card? Any pointers welcome. Guest bikedude880
Perhaps try different SATA ports? If you have more than 4 SATA ports, you might have a second incompatible chip driving them. Switch the connector around, see what it does. Switch the connector around, see what it does. Thanks. It has three. Tried two of them, will try the other now; it's for if you want to add an external Raid setup. I thought being VIA it would work. I'm going to bang in a regular hard drive and install to that, meantime. The motherboard in question is very cheap, not a good overclocker but ASUS have packed a lot in for the price. It doesn't use an intigrated G950 graphics chip, alas, so I added a cheap PNY Gefore 7300 and the combination works nicely in the Vista Beta (despite their being no Vista drivers; had to install XP to update the bios; the floppy method didn't work) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/33658-im-sorry-maam-no-sata-today-help/#findComment-238102 Share on other sites
graphic Design
Same Problem with mine! GA-8IK1100 (Gigabyte - 875P - ICH5R)! Did U try Disable your SATA RAID FUNCTION in your BIOS? That's the solution! (Don't forget to Enable it if U want to use Windows XP) Hope it's useful! Detosx
I had no joy getting Jas 10.4.8 to 'see' either of my Sata drives (tried seperately). I tried enabling and disabling everything I could see in the biso relating to Sata and Raid. Nothing. If it were a faulty motherboard, surely XP and Vista wouldn't have installed to it? What's going on! I then tried a regular Maxtor 160GB IDE. It already had a NTFS partition on it, so I sharnk that down to 60gb, shunted it along to the end of the hard drive, then added two FAT32 partitions, made one of them active and made the NTFS partition hidden (otherwise Jas was unable to see the drive). It didn't work. The install seemed to be going well. It rebooted and then, after the Welkommen Welcome screen I got a graphic showing a keyboard and a message to say no keyboard was detected. Gah! It clearly didn't like the Apple USB keyboard, even after selecting the USB patch option during install. I plugged in a regular keyboard but, to be expected, it wasn't detected. I rebooted but it wouldn't boot up. I tried again and fell asleep during the latter part of the install. I awoke to find my computer in a Darwin loader reboot loop. I will try with a virgin drive; I suspect the problem is having NTFS, even hidden, on the drive. Perhaps I will backup all my documents, then change it from a NTFS partition to a FAT32 one, hopefully not loosing any data in the process. Never tried that before. Again, any suggestions welcome. With Vista the board is a scortcher but... why do I want to use a poor Tiger ripoff, especially having shelled out for the Tiger operating system in good faith, so to speak! Detosx
An update. No joy getting this motherboard - the Asus P5VD2-MX - to 'see' Sata when trying to install jas 10.4.8. I have read in the Wiki that the VIA VT8237 should work (though my VT8237 ends with the letter A; is that a problem?). Also on the board is the VIA P4M890 of which I haven't been able to find any definitive statements. I found a German thread suggesting trying 10.4.7 with my particular motherboard, so I might do that, though I am not sure I understood the translation! Any takers on why this chipset should or shouldn't work? Asus P5VD2-MX Pentium D 2.8 1gig memory at 533 PNY Geforce 7300 Pioneer DVD burner tried both a Western Digital and a Seagate Sata drive. Detosx
I'm not sure I understand the answer in the thread here linked to, but it is all I have been able to find, certainly could do with elaboration if anyone is any the wiser? http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...amp;hl=P5VD2-MX Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/33658-im-sorry-maam-no-sata-today-help/#findComment-240653 Share on other sites
