Rammjet
To run OSX, a processor must be capable of SSE2 or SSE3 instructions. The Athlon XP 2000+ is only capable of SSE.

Rammjet
but it there a list of SSE2 or SSE3 If you are planning on running OSX, go for a processor with SSE3. Support for SSE2 is slowly disappearing from OSX. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SSE3#CPUs_with_SSE3 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SSE2#CPUs_supporting_SSE2
wow
I was thinking on replacing my p4 nortwood sse2 with an p4 prescott at the same speed. But forget it, the prescott runs so hot and not any faster (ok only with osx/sse3) but it produces 40% heat. My very small barebone is not gone like it. So i am stuck with sse2 but i guess i am happy with 10.4.8 and maybe 10.4.9 for now. Until i have to buy a new computer. Slow is not allways a problem, crashes or never stop spinning cds on screen are. Like in iTunes
