munky
since the EFI team have recently been making noises about flashing intel boards with apple's EFI firmware, i'd strongly recommend getting an intel motherboard as for processor, afaik no Core cpus can currently make use of both cores on a hackintosh, while Pentium D's can (someone correct me if im wrong). i'd say get an intel board which can handle a conroe (Core 2 Duo) chip and either get a conroe chip, or get a cheaper Pentium D (or even P4 or Celeron D depending on budget) and see what happens
McSkywalker
For the CPU, I'd say go for a Core Duo or Core 2 Duo. I've read somewhere that motherboards with intel's 965 series chipsets aren't well supported by Mac OS X. These threads provide decent feedback about motherboards: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...;hl=945+chipset http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...;hl=945+chipset
munky
thats true - a 975 chipset is reportedly better.
Ion Darie
ok the problem is I dont have the money to buy a core duo i need something like a normal intel processor and a not so fancy motherboard
McSkywalker
I have an Asus P4P800 which supports SSE3 Pentium 4's and it is working great. You can get a second hand one at a very low price. Also, you'll have to buy a P4 Prescott socket 478 chip. That should do the work with a decent performance at a very low cost. Good luck.
mdg
Get an Asus P5L-VM 1394. I have this board, and it is great (I also have the ASrock 945G-DVI, and prefer the former). Overclocks well -- I have a Core 2 Duo E6400 (2.13 Ghz easily OC'd to 2.65 Ghz with basic ram and stock heatsink..it is cool and quite). Get a Core 2 Duo 6400 and you'll spend less than $300 for everything. You can maybe save $100, but you'll regret it...especially if Hack compatibility is key. The only thing I added was a $20 Ethernet card, and my system rocks! No issues...all cores work, sound, video, etc. If $100 is going to break you, then wait -- save up, and buy the better stuff. You'll regret not. /mdg.

mdg
The 820 is fine, but you're better off spending a few more $$ for a C2D...for a plethora of reasons. I would stick to the Asus MB in your list.
