jamesst20
Hi, I have a Gigabyte RX 580 Gaming 8GB, I was wondering how high should the CPU usage be when watching 4k video on youtube ? Is over 250% the correct behavior ? Thank you PS: Safari & YouTube are not compatible with 4k video. I am using latest Opera stable. Dr. Hurt
4K videos on YouTube are only encoded in VP9 (thus not supported by Safari). VP9 uses strict CPU decoding on macOS. Few systems support VP9 HW decode even on Windows. Hopefully YouTube will support HEVC/h.265 in the future. At least till the new AV1 codec becomes mainstream. I wouldn't hold my breath though with the greedy licensing requirements for HEVC.
