Help with 10.9.5, MBR, HD6450

Recommended Posts

Please help me with this 10.9.5 system. Motherboard: Gigabyte 965p-s3 rev3.3, gpu: Ati Radeon HD6450 (dvi/hdmi/vga).

Using any of the 3 ports on the 6450 (dvi, hdmi, vga), I see all the white letters on black background during boot but when they complete and it's time for the graphics to start I get a black screen and sometimes a restart after that. Using Clover 4411. Is there any way to get past this?

Framebuffer: When Clover starts and I choose Options->GraphicsInjector, I see this line:

"FBConfig:Bulrushes_"

but I don't know if that is applied or just a suggestion.

PCI ID's of card: From within windows 7 I can obtain this information:

Vendor 1002, Device 6779, Subsys E164, Supplier 174B, Revision 00

but I am not sure if this is the information you requested.

Thank you for being willing to help.

You're meant to use a specific ATI framebuffer to be able to get your graphics working. It's a bit similar to the layout-id one selects for Intel integrated GPU.

In case you're not using it, I strongly recommend you use Clover Configurator app to configure Clover. For graphics settings, you'll be able to select ATI frame buffers through the Graphics tab. You also need to tick (select) Inject ATI but I guess you're already doing that. If Bulrushes does not work, try the other FB of the AMD 6000 controller.

Yes I am familiar with Clover Configurator but how can I use it when the machine doesn't even go into graphics? All I get is the (-v Verbose) messages, white letters on black background and then, a black screen.

You can use the Clover main menu to adjust your config manually before you boot...

I will try that and report back. Meanwhile, what other Clover options should I try to set/unset so I stand a better chance at reaching the Finder?

Try "Pithecia" framebuffer and if you still get a black screen, try the other values.. PCI id 1002:6779 is present in Mavericks vanilla AMD6000Controller kext so it should work OOB wi the correct FB, so to speak.

There appear to be so many permutations!

Which port should I connect a monitor to? Dvi, hdmi or vga? Personally I'd rather use vga.

I get this message when it hangs: "still waiting for root device" and a "stop" sign in the middle.

My Boot Args: -v dart=0 npci=0x3000

And then the Options->GraphicsInjector options, as shown:

Inject EDID (Fake Vendor, Fake Product, Backlight:0xFFF, Intel Max Backlight:0000)

Card Device ID=6779

Model: AMD Radeon HD 6450/7450/8450/R5

Inject ATI (select or not)

DualLink:1

DeInit: (select or not)

   Fake ID:0x00000000

   FBConfig:Pithecia

   Ports:06

   Connectors:00000004

   RefCLK:000000

Load Video Bios (select or not)

I might be making some slight progress in figuring out some of those Clover Graphics options.

Could you please tell me what "Connectors" and "RefCLK" mean?

I have put together this simple little guide for anybody wanting to use a Patched DSDT EFI with the same configuration as me.
This is also a thread to discuss everything Z390 Master and try and help where we can and maybe make things a little better for you.

A huge massive thank you to @glasgood @MaLd0n @larabee These three guys have helped me and talked me so much and are as helpful as you could ever get, Without them I wouldn't have a perfect working build like I do or be putting up this Guide & Discussion Thread sharing the hard work and countless hours that we have all put in to this.

This EFI and Patched DSDT have been created to work with a Gigabyte Aorus Z390 Master using bios revision F11c, 9900k with a 5700 XT but has also been tested and verified fully working with the following Hardware

      CPU's
      8600K, 8700, 8700K, 9400K, 9600K, 9700K, 9900K, 9900KS (All KF Models work but use SMBios iMacPro1,1 instead)

      GPU's
      RX 560, 570, 580, 590, Vega 56, Vega 64, Radion VII, RX 5500, 5500 XT, 5600, 5600 XT, 5700, 5700 XT
(If you have success with any different CPU or GPU's then please do let me know)

@glasgood Has kindly put together a new simple Catalina install guide so Just Follow He's Guide For a Perfect Install. (glasgood put the guide together for the Z390 Pro but the two boards are so alike that you can follow this guide with no problems at all using the Z390 Master)

Please Note - I have now set KernelPM to No as standard so if you don’t have a unlocked MSR or not using my MSR Unlocked Bios Profile then go into the Clover Config.plist and set KernelPM to Yes or you won’t be able to boot up. An even better fix would be to unlock your MSR using my profile method.

Note - If your not using a 5700 XT or any other Navi GPU then remove agdpmod=pikera from the boot arguments.

      OpenCore EFI Update v0.5.8 - 04/05/2020
Myself and @texem have now created a OpenCore EFI done the way the OpenCore Devs intended it to be made, There is no DSDT in use so you can use this EFI on any supported GPU and the SSDTs have been made so they will not be used in any other Operating System apart from MacOS.

PLEASE NOTE - These EFIs are setup to be used with your msr Unlocked so make sure you use the F11c Unlocked Profile but if for any reason you can not unlock MSR then just modify following in the OpenCore config.plist :

Hey all, hope you’re well :-)

Writing this from a phone so apologies in advance for formatting errors etc.

I’d like to build / am in the process of building a new machine. I started, then my mobo died and had to be rma’d and that put things on hold for a while..

Now things are are back on track here’s what I’m looking at.

I would like the system to boot Mac OS for music etc and as main / general os, Windows for gaming and Linux for development etc.

Heres the hardware I’m looking at - when I was looking at this previously I had set it up with clover but am definitely looking to go opencore this time around.

Gigabyte Aorus Pro / Aorus Pro WiFi
      Intel 9700k
      Corsair 650w PSU
      CoolerMaster ML240L
      MSI Air Boost Vega 64
      970 evo 1TB (Mac)
      Intel 660p 512GB (Windows)
      Crucial BX500 120GB (Linux)
2TB Barracuda or WD Blue (Storage)
Fenvi FV HB-1200 WiFi / Bluetooth
      Aerocool Cylon Case

I wanted to rival next generation games consoles and get a newer GPU but I will not be using Catalina due to the removal of 32 bit support. Therefore I think the vega is about as good as I can get with Mojave, and it will still work fine in windows for gaming etc.

What are your thoughts on the above hardware ?

      Hack/Mac-able? / With opencore ?

Any Issues I may encounter ?

I think I have most of the drivers / kexts for opencore together already but I’m obviously unable to progress with the ssdt files without the hardware. Wanted some advice on whether or not it’s doable before I splash the cash

I’ll also add to this thread / move it appropriately as the build progresses, hopefully smoothly

peace & thanks in advance :-)

Hello. I am often enquired about my Acer Aspire 8942G. So I decided to create a topic about this deal.
      Installation.
I use MBR and Mavericks is installed on the second hard disk, which have two partitions. One with Mavericks, the second with NTFS-partitions.
I prefer to install(restore) mac with the help of R-drive image under Windows. But it don't means that you must do so either. Do as you prefer
Note. Usually people start with Chameleon. You should use only two extra kexts, namely FakeSMC and NullCPUPowerManager for the first start.
And use these keys at the Chameleon -v -f GraohicsEnabler=No
Necessary kexts(patched kext and hackintosh kext
      AMD5000Controrrel
      AppleHDA
      AppleSmartBatteryManager
      BCM5722D
      FakeSMC
      AppleRTC
      DisplayMergeNub
      VoodooPS2Controller.
Note; S/L/E means System/Library/Extensions I have written it as it occasionally confuses the beginners
Note 2; you can find driver for LAN and sound from previous system here

      Graphics, DSDT and FaakeSMC, AppleHDA
      1) This patched Framebuffer we use
      Personality: AlouattaConnectorInfo count in decimal: 4Disk offset in decimal 5913920000000 02 00 00 00 40 00 00 00 09 00 00 00 10 00 00 04 - LVDS0000010 00 04 00 00 04 07 00 00 00 00 00 00 12 04 01 02 - DP0000020 00 08 00 00 04 02 00 00 00 00 00 00 11 02 02 01 - HDMI0000030 10 00 00 00 10 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 10 03 03 – VGA0000040 Plus you have to use GraphicsInjector or the best solution as I think is VideoBios within DSDT. Only with this method, "Display Sleep" works(I've already give the DSDT with that)
      http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/287995-how-to-launch-ati-card-by-dsdt/
      2) My dsdt is big, and it start up many of the equipment. I think it is enough had so as to improve something else, as it were. But you can suggest to me some correction.
For instance, some optimization and so on
Note, if your Acer doesn't boot with my DSDT, than it happens you use a little bit another model with small distinction, For example another processor such as Core i5 instead of i7. It happens because the addressing differs from mine at one place of the DSDT,
Find and correct it, on your DSDT. If you encounter this problem, write about here if you cannot cope with that on you own.
PS I have the DSDT from Acer Asoire 8942G which has Core i5, but I don't lay it out because it is old a little and I should finish it in this case.
      3) FakeSMC
I attached correct the Fake for our laptops, it emulates not only SMC, AppleHDAHardwareConfigDriver and ApppleGraphicsPowerManager(correct id) are being put right as well.
It also detects many sensors by means of HWSensors, the other sensors I wasn't be able to make it as it is super very hard but possible. You can read this topic just for the interest

      4) See here what patches what made for AppleHDA
      http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/290092-how-to-patch-applehda-with-the-help-of-bootloader/

Settings of bootloaders. Chameleon, XPC, bareBoot and Clover
You can find settings of bootloader at the folder Extra_files
Note; you must past your serial number. You can use Chameleon Wizaed for it.
Note 2; With Chameleon you should make patch of all kexts manually, in Clover and bareboot these patches are writhen at their settings in order to not repatch drivers after each update.
Though you must replace AppleSmartBatteryManager after each update
Note 3, As you can see at the XPC I use all patches except for Graphics patch. For some reasons, Graphics patch doesn't work at xpc. Hope that developer of this bootloader will solve the problem soon. As a consequence, I make patch of AMD5000Controller manually with the help of hexedit.

These two files are necessary for VoodooPS2Controller, and should be founded in indicated folders

      org.rehabman.voodoo.driver.Daemon.plist
      /Library/LaunchDaemons
Here is edid, you can use DisplayProductID or DisplayNergeNub, Although being together, they mustn't hinder each other.

      2) Pops durings waking up with AppleHDA, it happens only in Mavericks

      3) VoodooSDHC no longer works completely, at the Mavericks. At the Mountain Lion, it works very buggy.
      http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/136470-any-drivers-for-jmicron-jmb38x/?p=1927090
      4) Small spam at the kernel log made by the SmartBattery.

      5) Some indicators. Indicator of wifi doesn't work completely. Touchpad indicator can be only switched on/off under Windows.
