Varvas
I got the same message couple of times, but only then when I let the 10 second countdown timer reach zero. If I press any key, the installation starts. (pressing F8 is also an option)

Varvas
start the machine with "-v" option. Then you'll see what's causing this behavior.
macssam
it is important to connect your DVD-CD drive directly to the power supply don't share the power cable with a HardDisk or other devices IDE "Samsung Super Write Master 18x" works best you can use any DVD RW what ever ... Shaithis
Also, if your CPU is overclocked by a lot, you might need to back it off. I have found that 10.4.8 is EXTREMLY sensative to overclocked CPUs.....even though I am 100% 24/7 stable in Windows with my CPU at 3.5GHz, I have to back it off to 3.2GHz or else the OSX installer will crash at various points. Hiro_
I obtained the installation with success, but with it was only a test, because this great computer was of the my company, but at my home with this same DVD again only get "Still waiting for root device", so i already haven't none hopes of run 10.4.8 at my computer. Thanks by everything guys. :-(
Tauron
I've had this same issue for quite some time now. I have narrowed it down to what it isn't. 1) It isn't the DVD. I've burned multiple copies with the same results. I have had successes, on different systems, and all with the same external DVD player. 2) It isn't the disc. I've had success with the disc more than once. I've also had the apple.com.Boot.plist issue with the same disc several times. 3) It has nothing to do with the processor, motherboard, or other cards outside of the hard drive controllers. I suspect it has something to do with the SATA drives. I have used IDE ATA drives without problems. The only time I have had problems is with SATA drives. I hope someone clever can figure out a solution to this problem because it seems to be pretty common. Good luck!!!
