All, was wondering if anyone else had seen this problem - I've had a working 10.13.1 installation since release, booting alongside Windows 10.  I restarted into Windows for the first time in a while yesterday, and when I rebooted into OSX, the system hung on startup (Progress bar is approximately 2/3rds full, spinning pinwheel overlaid between the apple logo and bar.  In verbose mode, I get through 3 screens of text, and then a solid white rectangular cursor appears in the top left and just stays there)

Does any one have any idea of what could have caused this?  My CC backup does the same thing

Have you tried to boot using space bar once, select verbose, single user, don’t reboot on panic, keep symbols, and debug kexts? When it stops at root# type in: fsck -fy, then at second root#: exit

It should either boot to black screen, or log in screen unless it stops at a panic message. If it boots to black screen reboot normally if it did it’s jobs should get you in.

Is windows on the same drive? Did you have a windows update?
