Hi all.

As I said in the title, today I installed the 10.4.8 JaS final release and I found some problems, which I will list:

  1. No Internet Connection!!!
I solved this problem by changing my AppleRTL8139Ethernet.kext with the one of the 10.4.3 DVD.
  2. No USB2 support.
I solved this problem by downloading an installer package from apple developer's website. This package is called IOUSBFamily261.4.2_Intel.pkg
  3. gma 900 issue... NOT SOLVED YET!

About the gma 900 problem, I know it is even listed by JaS on the website where we downloaded his DVD from, and I know also that in this forum there are many people talking about a solution which consists of eliminating all the gma950 kext after booting in single user mode, but...... simply I am not able to do complicated things.

Could someone tell me how to solve this problem easily, without typing strange codes on a totally black screen? :happymac::) Is it possible to solve this problem from the gui?

For enable GMA900 with 10.4.8 you need the 3 AppleIntel915.kext's and AppleIntelFramebuffer.kext , all kexts 1.4.2.28 (i think so 1.4.4.40 version don't work).

This packake could find in the DVD Jas 10.4.8 named GMA900Support.pkg or from another source.

First here is how I solved my GMA 950 problem as simple as I can make it...

1. Delete any files that say AppleIntel915 or AppleIntelGMA950 from /System/Library/Extensions

2. Delete extensions.kextcache and extensions.mkext from /System/Library

3. On the JaS DVD locate the GMA900 or GMA950 install package It is in /System/Installation/Packages

4. Install the package you need, GMA900 for a 900/915 chipset or GMA950 for the GMA 950 obviosuly.

5. Once the package has finished installed go to Disk Utility

6. Repair your permissions

7. Reboot

That worked perfectly for me.

Now like to add one problem to the list, sure it is kernel related....even though I do have my FSB set correctly my system clock seems to add about ten minutes a day.

Hi. I have tried in both ways: first I have taken off only the AppleIntel915 and Integrated Framebuffer, and I have had no results.

The second time I have taken off every kext referring to AppleIntel950, and I have got a blue screen with no images.

So I guess none of this methods works! Other ideas?!?

I solved my issues with 10.4.8 and my GMA950 by this method

1) Deleting AppleIntel915.kext,AppleIntel915GA.plugin, AppleIntel915GLDriver.bundle and AppleIntelIntegratedFramebuffer.kext.

2) Open with Pacifist Mac OS X Install Disc x86/System/Installation/Packages/JaS.10.4.8.GMA.900.Support.pkg and install only AppleIntelIntegratedFramebuffer.kext.

3) delete kextcache and repair permisions

restart and it work

If I had a GMA900, do not deleting AppleIntel915.kext's, I deleting AppleIntel GMA950.kext's but with previous AppleIntelIntegratedFramebuffer.kext to 10.4.8.

I have GMA900, but whenever I erase any GMA950 file, after I reboot, the only thing I see is a blue screen. It boots completely, but the images don't appear. I just see a blue-purple color and the only thing I can do is booting XP and from there restore the files I had deleted.

Of course if I don't do anything to the DVD Install, I can see all the images, but the screen saver is so slow, because I guess there are problems with the Extensions and/or with the Frameworks.

Aren't there any gurus that can suggest a solution to my problem? Isn't it possible to make an installer to patch this problem properly?? :(

Thank you anyway!

If you can only boot to the blue screen I would try booting off the DVD and running repair permissions there. If that doesn't work, boot into single user mode and delete the kext files again. At least you will be able to boot then.

I am sorry, but I am very ignorant and I feel ashamed of it... :) I know that to boot into single user mode, I have to type -s, but then what happens? Do I get a black screen with a code to type? This is that sort of things that makes me panic, because I wouldn't feel comfortable and very likely I would make a mess.

I wouldn't know the correct commands to give nor the precise name of all the files to delete-substitute. That's why I haven't done what JaS was suggesting somewhere else. ;)

The last release of Jas 10.4.8 DVD take one package named GMA900Support.pkg who can help in your matter. It consist an 3 appleintel915.kext's, one intelframebuffer.kext and openglframework.

I know, of course. I have already tried to use that package, but I have had no results.

Now my computer goes faster than it was with the old kernel, but I get a benchmark of 56 (!!!), because of the GMA 900 being too slow! :(

  • 5 months later...

If you get a Blue Screen, just connect a monitor. That worked for me.

I recommend doing a fresh install of 10.4.7 and then use the APPLE OFFICIAL 10.4.8, FOLLOWING the next steps. (If you do not follow the steps correctly, you WILL damage your current installation)

http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...c=33342&hl=

It is working perfect for me.

GMA950.
