dmk
Attempting a clean install on new partition on this laptop from a fresh boot with newest seeded JAS DVD. It's a Dell E1505 laptop, Core Duo, Intel 950GMA graphics (I assume that's the issue). CD churns away and appears to be working and loading up the install, but screen goes black as soon as the grey apple boot screen goes away. Attempted using the following boot params to no avail: -v -f -s -x "Graphics Mode+'"1280x800x32@60" cpus=1 idlehalt=0 fn=3 platform=x86pc Still get the black screen no matter what as soon as it attempts to go to GUI. Any suggestions? Am I missing something simple? Thanks! Rammjet
It's a Dell E1505 laptop, Core Duo, Intel 950GMA graphics (I assume that's the issue). -v -f -s -x FYI, the boot options -s and -x do different things and shouldn't be used together - choose one or the other. -x boots in safe mode - a GUI environment with reduced functionality for troubleshooting -s boots single user mode - a command line environment (no GUI) for extreme troubleshooting I believe I heard that the GMA950 package had permission problems. Try booting in single-user mode (-s) and repair permissions. Type: mount -uw / diskutil repairPermissions / cd /System/Extensions rm -rf Extensions.mkext Extensions.kextcache reboot Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/32489-dell-e1505-new-jas-1048-black-screen-on-clean-install/#findComment-228165 Share on other sites
dmk
Thanks for the posts, folks. I'm not sure I can even boot in single user mode at this point though. I'm having this problem on the initial install, I haven't even gotten the OS to boot up and run the installation yet. OSX isn't even on the hard drive, just on the CD. I totally formatted my OSX partition and am booting from the install CD and can't even get the install process to appear onscreen. Anyone else have any ideas? It's tough with the CD being set in stone as it is, not much I'll be able to do without a PPF patch if there's no boot options that will work, I guess. Unless I'm missing something stupid! joe75
Unless I'm missing something stupid! Your not missing anything The first release or the new reseed, would not install, its gotta be a hardware problem with DeLL Search around for E1505, I have only seen 1705 success. What processor do you have? joe75
anyone have a fix? tried disabiling one core, but it didn't work. I tried many times, with all possible configurations I could use and it will not work. You can still have 10.4.8/8.8.1, you just cant get it form the new JaS release. dmk
I actually got this working -- I will post a new thread tomorrow. My wireless internet (1390) isn't responding yet, but everything else seems ok. XBench of 101 with mif kernel (including HD tests which really slow stuff down). rumblpak
if you hit fn + f8 the screen will eventually show up, now whether or not you can read that screen is another story.
