Do you have a GMA 900? 915? or 950?

If you have a GMA950, the solution is very simple, and this may work with the other GMA models as well. Simply delete all the GMA kexts from System/Library/Extensions and then reinstall using the appropriate package from the JaS DVD. Once you have installed the package run disk utility and repair permissions. Worked for me and many other folks.

OK, I have 915, already try that but I get garbled display and if I try to replace the 950, panic boot. :)

I just didn't install any packages from the JaS install DVD.

When it booted i just repaired permissions and then installes JaS's GMA900 pkg from the DVD...

Working flawless ;)

I ran into that myself. It's either the OpenGL frameworks or a conflicting GMA950 kext/plugin is still there.

With some more troubleshooting you should be able to get it to work. Troubleshooting skills are half the battle of OSx86.

System Profiler tips:

Make sure your IntelFramebuffer kext and GMA915 drivers have the same version. Make sure the 915 and IntelFramebuffer kext's are loading.

Make sure you have a correct OpenGL Framework that came with your GMA900 package on your newest JaS 10.4.8 DVD. If the main 915 kext is not loading, replace it out.

Once you get it working, backup your Frameworks and Extensions:

Terminal commands:

sudo ditto -v /System/Library/Frameworks /Volumes/yourbackupdrivenamehere/Frameworks.backup

sudo ditto -v /System/Library/Extensions /Voluimes/yourbackupdrivenamehere/Extensions.backup

This way you can reinstall these Extensions and Frameworks in the future by reversing the paths.

Only replace the entire Frameworks folder running from another System. Not the System that you are booted up to.

Backup these up after you get a working system.

You might want to install a backup 10.4.8 or older kernel based system on a separate drive to help you troubleshoot the problem.

If you are out of drives for Test OS', get a USB2.0 drive or a Firewire / USB 2.0 Combo drive. Remember USB2.0 is only booted on x86. I don't know of anyone who can boot from Firewire. Real Macs can boot from Firewire.

;)
