Squidderlee
Hi,I hope someone can help with this issue as it has been bugging me for more than a month now. I am attaching a screenshot so you can see for yourself exactly what the issue is. The driver is installed okay, The DOngle blinks, the n11 Adapter is recognised in Network Settings... but I cannot connect and am plagued with this Cable Unplugged message... I have pluggeed it into almost every USB socket on my Z87X board and still the message persists. I Cannot do a network diagnostic on it as the Wi-Fi option is permanently greyed out! I have tried and tried to get DHCP to activate - simply not happening!I have even gone to the extent of re-installing EL Capitan to a separate partition and booting to it to troubleshoot, test different drivers etc... its EXACTLY the same. Is there something in Clover I need to enable or disable? I am really stumped with this and having gotten nowhere on another forum (really not to many replies) decided to give it a try here...I'll try to be patient! Thanks in advance Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/324248-d-link-dwa-125-r2870-adapter-installed-but-still-cannot-connect/ Share on other sites
Cyberdevs
Use bear extender 5.4 it will solve you'r problem, Al though you'll need to use the bear extender interface to connect to the network rather than the Network preferences pane. Here it is!!! I forgot to include this with the original post!!! It's installed and running! NO NETWORK INTERFACE! You need to have the connection first - ie. the adapter working via DHCP in Network Settings! In other wrods you need to have connectivity - hence this post! Bear externder and other menubar items like it simply allow you to connect to a network via a wifi connection! If you cannot get the connection... ie in Network Settings, then you are met with NO Wireless NIC plugin!!! The problem here is that in Network settings I'm infored a Cable is unplugged. It is NOT! I have tried this setup in both Sierra and EL Capitan and the issue is exactly the same... with Bear Extender, Go-USB and even DLinks own interface.... The issue imo has absolutely nothing to do with those! The Adapter works fine in Windows so it's not a hardware issue either I was really hoping someone might be able to help me get this thing connected! The Bear Extender interface is either "connected" or gives you a link to Network Settings - The heart of the issue As I mentioned... you need to be able to connect and configure... Here are some typical driver install instructions! I cannot connect to the WLAN because I cannot configure the adapter in Network in System Preferences!!!! Cyberdevs
Bear Extender 5.4 has it's own network connection window. I will post some screen shots later because I don't have access to my computer right now. You also might need to add a kext to the EFI folder which I will post it as well. You can only use the kext inside the DMG file at first and see how it goes with the Remove any other network management applications you already have, 1. Install the Bear Extender wireless utility 2. Copy RT2870USBWirelessDriver.kext inside /EFI/Clover/kexts/10.11 or /EFI/Clover/kexts/Other or use Kext utility to install it to /System/Library/Extensions you can also install the kext file inside /S/L/E but I prefer to have it inside my EFI folder for future reference. reboot and you will be able to connect to any wireless network using Bear Extender Connection manager. I must say using the Bear Extender on macOS Sierra was much unstable in my experience. As far as I know you can see the 11n Adapter in the Network Preferences but you can't use it to connect to any network. At least I never could. But I used the instructions above to activate my DLink DWA 125 usb adapter. Squidderlee
This is pretty much exactly how I have it set up! RT 2870 is in the 10.12 and 10.11 kext folders (depending on which os I boot to) if it wasn't I wouldn't get the blinking light! So the driver is recognised. It may have to do with the version... but before I sat anything else I will give it a try with your download,,,, Bear Extender 5.4 has it's own network connection window. Thanks for your patience!Good old Bear Extender does the job again.... the version you have is very different to the ones I have... but I think it's the same as the original I lost on a Fried External HD! The big downside here is that even though I have Wirless now - I do not have handoff or Airdrop!!! Think I'm going to have to go the broadcom route! 1 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/324248-d-link-dwa-125-r2870-adapter-installed-but-still-cannot-connect/#findComment-2437400 Share on other sites

My Pleasure I have the same Wireless Adapter so I had to find a way to make it works and I took me a lot of time and lots of web surfing to find a working solution. Although I don't use it anymore but few years back it was a great network adapter. AirDrop and HandOff won't work with the D-Link DWA 125 but there are plenty of other devices such as TP-Link WDN4800 which supports AirDrop (I'm not sure about HandOff) and works out of the box no kext or extra app is needed to make it work. 1 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/324248-d-link-dwa-125-r2870-adapter-installed-but-still-cannot-connect/#findComment-2437428 Share on other sites

That's good to know... I was thinking about the PCie Broadcom Hack but am not sure I'll be able to get the components that easy where I am in Lima Peru,,,, or at least for under $15 or so as they mention in the vids, The WDN4800 though seems considerably more expensive... if its around USD $40 on Amazon it will be at least $50 here! This will load though as an Airport Card? I think this is the requirement to get both Airdrop and Handoff working Natively! Cyberdevs
Well PCIe Broadcom seems like a good choice, and it must be detected as AirPort. TP-link WDN4800 is great network adapter and it also is detected as AirPort in macOS. Update: Using a Broadcom wireless+bluetooth is a better choice because AirDrop is not working 100% on my TP-Link, AirDrop uses bluetooth to find the devices and then uses the wifi for file transfer, with my TP-link O have to open AirDrop on my computers first in order for macOS to finds them then I can transfer the files. So IMHO go for the Broadcom wireless+bluethooth and it's even cheaper!! For what it's worth I have Bluetooth working already... on a dongle. Would I need to have it specifically on a dual card like that? I believe there is also an atheros wirelas + bluetooth solution - maybe the updated/later version of the WDN4800? Will need to google this when the time comes! Cyberdevs
Well I tested the TP-link + USB bluetooth combination and it did't work. maybe it didn't work because of my old bluetooth dongle or maybe it only works with the combo devices. I'm not sure 1 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/324248-d-link-dwa-125-r2870-adapter-installed-but-still-cannot-connect/#findComment-2437545 Share on other sites
