First of all, hello. I'm new to the site, and I've been searching/reading non stop for the past few days trying to get OSX to work on my HP dv5000 notebook.

I used this guide to set up my video card: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=22215

I'm using Callisto v. b005

If I try to boot up normally, I'll see all the typical verbose mode text flying by, and then the Callisto part begins loading. The info that Callisto posts up seems to be correct. It finds my video card model and gets the LCD panel size from the BIOS. Then, it hangs on this line:

"/System/Library/Core Services/loginwindow.app/Contents/MacOS/loginwindow: Login Window Application Started"

From here, I can't do anything but force a shutdown.

If I boot with the -x command for safe boot, I can get into OSX just fine and under System Preferences >> Displays, I now have options for the following resolutions:

640x480

800x600

1024x768

1280x768

1280x800

I can set it to the 1280x800 just fine while under safe boot. I would just like to be able to get to this point under regular booting conditions. Any help is appreciated. I'm new to OSX, so I'm probably leaving out some important information. I apologize and thank you in advance for any help.

Here's my setup:

HP dv5035nr laptop

AMD Turion 64 ML-40

1gb ram

ATI Radeon XPRESS 200m (device id: 0x5955)

'About This Mac' shows version 10.4.4, but I installed off of an ISO by Myz claiming to be 10.4.6, so I'm a bit confused there.

I've had my dv5000 working fine for awhile barring deleting the kextcache every boot. Get the 003 build of Callisto, and it'll work fine without QE/CI.

ATI was a complete moron. the x200m has messed up architechure and it wont work. if you use callisto or any other it hangs at the login window. the x200m chipset needs a patch that is only included in the JAS 10.4.7 DVD. i have the same problem and im currently downloading 10.4.7. im not sure if it will fix the graphics but it will make the install/runnig of OS X much faster. if you need a cheap solution for the graphics look up ATI rage pro 128. its got 32mb of vram but it has Q/E supported. if you have the cash get the Radeon x1600. BUT FIRST GET "JAS 10.4.7 DVD" then worry bout graphics. to ge your chipset workin when its ready to instal click customize and choose the ATI SATA option.

Edit: nevermind you have a laptop no graphics card for you im sorry

So it should work if I use the JAS 10.4.7 dvd? Can I get the updates or do I need to do a full re-install?

Again misinformation. I had 10.4.5/10.4.6 before the JaS 10.4.7 DVD, and it worked fine even after installing through VMWare. I had to install a few patches, but it works fine. Just no QE/CI.

Again, the x200 works fine after you patch files, and yes, the JaS 10.4.7 DVD is the best distro for this chipset yet. Nearly everything works out of the box, but wireless was better supported with a different driver, and I can't remember which one. I've given up on OSX86 on my laptop until they come out with a driver that works with QE/CI.

Just installed the 10.4.7 update by Jas, and my display worked at 1280x800 on a regular boot.

However, no QE/CI support, and it only shows my video card as 47MB of VRAM, when it's 128mb. Oh well. It works alright for now.

Also, my Broadcom wireless worked out of the box, so I'm stoked about that

For those of you who are interested, several of us did put in quite a bit of work trying to figure out how to get QE/CI working. While we were not successful, please feel free to read, maybe our failure will be the seed for someone else success.

Yeah, you'll get that VRAM problem. If you increase the shared RAM in the BIOS it'll go up some, but at the expense of your main memory. Not worth it.

  • 1 year later...

I installed 10.4.7 JaS on here and it went threw with hardly no problems, I then updated to a disk called 'mac osx installer' and it ran right threw. Now the only problem I have is the battery icon is not displaying or even appearing anywhere in my device(not a hard fix). If anyone is interested I can find the links I got the 2 disks that worked. However, my resolution is only 1024x768.
