Derek12
Because I can't get the FakeSMC to load (gray screen with spinning colored wheel and dFakesmc doesn't appear in -v). Tried Updating and downloading several versions of Fakesmc and Clover Update Clover to latest version. Rebuilding the USB installer Update FakeSMC to latest version, with and without plugins Repairing permissions with the chmod and chown commands. Can't use manual installers because I have a 8GB USB drive. Copying it to all Folder versions in Clover, including other. Using the recommended settings for Clover like rtvariables and such Thank you for any help, I have wasted a entire day of my life with this to no avail Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/308337-does-el-capitan-work-with-a-createinstallmedia-usb/ Share on other sites
Derek12
After a new rebuild, now the screen turns off, with the same procedures. This is hopeless. I will leave Hackintosh after 4 years, farewell to all Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/308337-does-el-capitan-work-with-a-createinstallmedia-usb/#findComment-2172334 Share on other sites
fusion71au
@Derek12, Have a look at my guide: How to create an El Capitan Installer which doesn't need bootloader kext injection (FakeSMC in pre-linked kernel). If your USB is not large enough, you can create an 8GB+ HFS partition on your hard drive named "Installer" for installation instead. Boot in verbose mode and only add essential third party kexts necessary for booting eg FakeSMC without plugins, VoodooPS2Controller (for laptops) - avoid GenericUSBXHCI ---> will kp. PS Put your hardware specs in your sig so it is easier for others to help you . Derek12
Thank you. I followed that tutorial and after 20 secs or so the Apple logo bootscreen turns into a forbidden sign. -v says "error loading kernel cache" Despite the tutorial saying it requires an 8GB USB drive, I think it doesn't fit into my 8GB USB as I had 300kb free and had to install Clover on another USB drive to boot the installer, and the error. I had a sig but, I had removed it as I am about to retire from Hackintoshing, I wasted 2 entire days. probably Apple removed support for my computer and so on I will retire until I get a new computer (and try, because It won't be a Mac) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/308337-does-el-capitan-work-with-a-createinstallmedia-usb/#findComment-2172468 Share on other sites
HBP
an alternative to that method that I have used is this one, #1 . also if you are getting a KP in startup then it is an issue with reading the usb or disk that you are trying to use. yes the post I linked requires a larger drive, but it also does not require any additional interaction, it is wizard based as you seem un-inclined to give the information needed for assistance this is probably the best route to take for getting a working El capitan install. HBP PS remember that you need to set CsrActiveConfig in order to load unsigned Kexts. Derek12
Thank you, CPU:Celeron G530 GPU: Geforce GT610 RAM:6GB MB:Gigabyte H61M-S2-B3 HD:320 GB laptop one with Windows 10 Gave another try, and finally got to the installer with the createinstallmedia by using nv_disable=1 otherwise the screen turns off and the system seems to stall but no hang. FakeSMC seems to load now without knowing what happened before. I had NEVER had to disable graphics before, even in EC betas and GM, and graphics always worked OOB with my GT610. I don't have a free 16 GB USB (Yes I have, but they are full of other things and cannot use them) Yes I have the CsrActiveConfig correctly configured (0x67) Clover seemed to add it by default.
