cbolicious
Howdy people! My specs:Cpu: Intel Core i5-4690K Haswell 3.5 ghz LGA1150Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z97X-UD7 TH, Intel Z97 chipset, USB 3.0, UEFI/BIOS, audio chip is Realtek ALC1150, GBE Intel LAN chip, XMP support for ram RAM: Corsair Vengeance Pro series 4x8GB 2400mhz (XMP capable RAM)Video card: Gigabyte g1 gaming graphics card Nvidia GeForce GTX 960 2GB ramInstall drive: Toshiba 256GB SSD So I was able to use "another" method to do a successful Yosemite install. That was a pain to get working. Had to disable a bunch of stuff in BIOS before I got it to work (Turboboost, VT-d, Thunderbolt, Wake on LAN, Intel Virtualization) and set the default graphics to IGFX (mobo graphics). The other thing that "felt" like it helped (my sanity) was using a USB 3.0 stick instead of 2.0 because it was insanely faster! Anyway, I am trying to switch over to Clover and I understand I can just install Clover right on top of my existing install, but I am working through the settings by trying to get the Clover USB installer disk to boot to the installer. The error message I get is:Error allocating 0x[hex address] jpages at 0x[hex address] alloc type 2Couldn't allocate runtime areaBoot failed…. If I remove the video card the message goes away and I can get to the installer... I have been trying different settings for the last 4 days. I used the rampagedev guide for Haswell processors which gave me a SSDT file for my motherboard. I am using Clover Configurator to do my editing. I tried using the gen p/c states and that didn't help. I went through all the combinations of UEFI 64-bit drivers, I have tried tons of boot flags.I tried the rampagedev config.plist, the one from tony, the default one, I tried making my own with Configurator...I have been mostly trying to use AppleIntelE1000e.kext, RealtekRTL8111.kext, ALXEthernet.kext, and FakeSMC.kext though I have tried removing all but FakeSMC to see if it would help.I have also tried checking and unchecking the Inject Nvidia/Intel.I have run with DumpUefiCalls.efi and even with some test2.efi which was supposed to be an alternate/extension of OsxAptioFixDrv-64.efi... Frankly I don't know what else to try besides using Kernel and Kext patches, but I am not familiar with how to do that... I found this info on SSDT injection code for Nvidia 900 series video cards, but I don't really know if this will help… I think it is a workaround for getting audio over hdmi to work... http://www.rampagedev.com/?page_id=276&page=14 Does anybody know what I should try next? THANKS!!!! cbolicious
I never tried using that one as the comment in Clover Configurator says it may cause KPs.I added it to see what would happen just now and it just goes to a blinking cursor before even getting to the Clover load screen. Any other ideas? Thanks!!
cbolicious
Success! Ok, I came across a post where someone said to confirm that you have the right version of the driver installed on the OS (http://www.macvidcards.com/which-driver-should-i-install-for-my-new-gpu.html ) (Already had that one installed). They said to install the Nvidia CUDA driver which is for using your GPU as a sort of CPU to speed up processing. I don't think has anything to do with making it work. Then they said to switch your primary video card in BIOS from the mobo graphics to the Nvidia card graphics. Voila! Booted without issue. Short answer solution: Perform Clover Mac OSX Install with Nvidia card completely removed. Install drivers in Mac OSX and enable Nvidia Web driver. Install video card and switch BIOS to use Nvidia card as primary. So the correct starting from nothing installation steps to avoid the "Error allocating pages" error message when using a non natively supported Nvidia card is as follows: 1. Create your USB stick using one of the guides out there. I liked these guides: http://www.rampagedev.com/?page_id=50 http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/305255-making-a-10101011-usb-installer-w-clover-uefi-and-legacy-the-correct-way/ (For more debugging and details look here: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/284656-clover-general-discussion/and the clover wiki) This step includes setting up your config files, kext files, efi files, and SSDT file (see the rampaged guide for some custom ssdt files without having to create your own) Here is how my configuration ended up looking (so far): In Clover Configurator: Acpi: Halt Enabler is checked in the Drop Tables section I have: (not sure which template had this.. or if it is necessary) SSDT, TableId, CpuPm SSDT, TableId, Cpu0lst Boot: Verbose, nvda_drv=1, kext-dev-mode=1, darkwake=0 XMPDetection = No (but I think I will enable this) Cpu: nothing entered Devices: USB Inject, Add ClockID, and FixOwnership are checked Audio ResetHDA is checked Disable Drivers: nothing entered Gui: left at default Graphics: Everything unchecked (I think it is key to have Inject NVidia unchecked) Kernel and Kext Patches: Apple RTC is checked Rt Variables: once you get up and running you will enter the iMessage fix inputs in these fields SMBIOS: use the magic wand. I selected the super safe MacPro3,1 and might switch to 14,2 later... System Parameters: Inject Kexts = Detect, Inject System ID is checked For the efi drivers I have (Install Drivers section in Clover Configurator): Drivers UEFI 64 BIT: OsxAptioFix2Drv Extra Drivers: HFSPlus UEFI, OsxFatBinaryDrv UEFI If you are having trouble deciding which of these to use there is a great guide here: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/282787-clover-v2-instructions/page-2?do=findComment&comment=1910955 I also had found a list of the order in which to try these… The How to do UEFI Boot section: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/282787-clover-v2-instructions/ You can also install DumpUefiCalls.efi.zip to get a debug log file in the EFI/CLOVER/misc folder. It will hang after the boot failure though and you have to power the machine off. Only use it if you are debugging. 2. Update your BIOS settings Disable VT-d, set your graphics to IGFX (or your onboard graphics equivalent) Optional (I think): Disable Thunderbolt, Wake on LAN, and Intel Virtualization 3. Remove your Nvidia video card from the machine (don't just pull the additional power plugs because it will still see the card) 4. Boot to the UEFI partition of the USB stick and install Mac OSX 5. Boot to OSX and install Clover and your associated EFI partition files. 6. Install the Nvidia driver (per http://www.macvidcards.com/which-driver-should-i-install-for-my-new-gpu.html ) 7. Reboot and enable the Nvidia Web Driver 8. Shutdown and install your Nvidia video card 9. Boot up with no flags necessary 10. Do your fix iMessage and other configuration settings 11. Manually transfer files from your previous mac as apparently the Migration Assistant can mess yo stall up 11. Live your life! UPDATE 3-25-2016: I updated to the most recent BIOS on my mobo. Make sure you write down or take pics of all your settings before doing so as it gets wiped out. I just put the BIOS update folder/files in the EFI partition on one of my internal drives and the mobo was able to see it. I was also able to enable the following without issues: Enabled Intel Virtualization Technology Vt-x (required to run Parallels, Virtual Box, etc. on a hackintosh) XHCI mode to Enabled Wake on LAN enabled Platform power mgmt set to Disa. Dynamic Storage Accelerator set to enabled. Enabled is supposed to improve SSD performance though may only apply to RAID scenarios... Not sure. In HW Monitor you can increase the fan speedier better thermal control. Note on XHCI that I found: XHCI Mode = Disabled The on-board USB 3.0 port function like a 2.0 portXHCI Mode = EnabledThe on-board USB 3.0 port function like a 3.0 portXHCI Mode = AutoThe on-board USB 3.0 port function like a 2.0 port before OS USB 3.0 driver load.If you reboot the OS, the on-board USB 3.0 port again function like a 2.0 port during this reboot BIOS phase before OS USB 3.0 driver load.XHCI Mode = Smart AutoThe on-board USB 3.0 port function like a 2.0 port before OS USB 3.0 driver load.If you reboot the OS, during this reboot BIOS phase, BIOS is "Smart" enough to avoid downgrade the USB 3.0 port back to 2.0 functionality before OS USB 3.0 driver load. So Smart Auto is faster than Auto on 2nd boot onward, but Enabled is fastest once you are sure the OS has the USB 3.0 driver installed, because it avoid the switching. Making the on-board USB 3.0 port function like a 2.0 port is mainly to support OS installation or to support OS that does not have build-in USB 3.0 driver, so that the USB keyboard would still work if the user plug-in a USB keyboard or any other USB devices into the USB 3.0 ports before the OS is installed with the USB 3.0 driver come with the motherboard. Mac OS X apparently doesn’t like Smart Auto
jperkins909
Great post I just went through this but didn't keep track of all the steps I took because there were a lot of them and not everything works. This looks to be an easy reference if I wanted to repeat that. Strange to recommend CUDA toolkit (at 1GB)? it does have video drivers which are older but more stable, at least on windows. dart=0 disables virtualization so you can leave vt-d.
cbolicious
Thanks for the dart=0. I will try to give that a try. I need to systematically re-enable stuff in BIOS to see what works! And yeah I don't buy the CUDA part either. I think it was just having to take the video card out to install and to change primary video to Nvidia after installing the drivers. I was about ready to give up it was so frustrating figuring this out. I hope this helps the next guy or gal!
jperkins909
Funny think about the BIOS, I updated mine after everything was working nice and right away it increased my bootup times by 30+ seconds and threw out a bunch of extra errors that didn't exist before. After reverting back to the old version it was back to fast boot times and much less errors. That's what I get for trying to fix something that wasn't broken. cbolicious
Got around to installing Sierra. Had my main drive fail right in the middle. Thank you SuperDuper! Tried again after recovering and ran into some issues. Anyway, audio didn't work. Used https://github.com/toleda/audio_CloverALCto fix it after hours of searching and getting side tracked. I had also installed Clover-ALC1150.pkg which may have helped Also created a DSDT and SSDT file from scratch using https://sourceforge.net/projects/maciasl/and ssdtPRGen (which if I recall correctly did the power states stuff) Also removed my Acpi> DSDT Patches (for USB fixes) and Drop Tables entries. Overall I think my install should be more stable. Had been having issues with some Adobe Flash content used for work crashing all the time in Google Chrome. Time will tell...
