trav1085
I am wondering if I can install Windows 98 Second Edition on my Dell Inspiron 1150 laptop computer. I will format my entire drive if I need to (which I will) but I am wondering about graphics cards and the monitor if it will work. I am currently using Fedora Core by Red Hat on my laptop. lane
Windows 98 is not supported by Microsoft any more. It is not advisable to use it under any condition, for most tasks you can simply install Wine in Linux and go from there. If for some reason you are going to NEED Windows 98 for something specific you can save yourself a headache by buying VMware for Linux and installing 98 inside of that. U.C.
Yeah seriously 98 is horrible. But yeah its possible. Monitor should work and Intel does provide drivers for 98. If nothing else, it will be standard VGA. I am assuming, its for games, coz you said Monitor/GFX card. XP is way better and games generally prefer it. Mostly, older drivers can always be obtained from driverheaven.com and good ol google. Danyel
If for some reason you are going to NEED Windows 98 for something specific you can save yourself a headache by buying VMware for Linux and installing 98 inside of that. I'm running Windows XP and OSx86 10.4.1 on my Dell Inspiron 1150. You can download VMware Server for free. Then you can run Windows 98, Linux, whatever on your virtual box. http://www.vmware.com/products/free_virtualization.html --danyel Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/30739-windows-98-on-dell-inspiron-1150/#findComment-349439 Share on other sites
