Re-enabling AMD GPU/kext after replacing logic board?

Like many 2011 MacBook Pro owners, my logic board eventually failed. Am thankful that Apple eventually recognized this and started a repair program.

 

I have had the logic board replaced free of charge but now I'm stuck with a bit of a problem. Let me explain:

 

First, I'm a novice at navigating in terminal / single-user mode. I can follow clear instructions for the layman, but that's about it.

To get the laptop working after the GPU-logic board issue, I followed the instructions here:

 

Boot hangs on grey screen (even when booting from USB drive with fresh OS X install)

 

In short, I moved the AMD (and ATI) extensions to a holding folder and the computer defaulted to loading the HD3000 extension.

I then took a Time Machine backup and gave my laptop for repairs. Logic board was replaced and the shop formatted the hard drive and reinstalled a fresh OS. All was working well.

 

Of course, when I restored from my Time Machine backup, the AMD extensions were once again disabled. I followed the reverse of the procedure above, booting into single-user mode and moving the extensions back, but the computer still doesn't recognize that the extensions are there for use.

 

I've used GFXcardstatus to try to force the computer to use the discrete card but no dice. And kextstat still shows that pesky HD3000 driver is loading. No control over brightness, no ability to set display resolution and a simple flash web site grind everything to a halt.

Of course I've thought about simply moving the HD3000 driver to the holding folder and letting the computer reboot but I'm scared I'll just slide further down a rabbit hole.

 

Will be very grateful for any help. And remember, I'm a bit slow at all of this so I do really need things in plain English.

Hi there,

 

my guess would be some messed up permissions and/or rights, due moving the files with the wrong user (e.g. root). If you can boot into the Desktop try running http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/files/file/397-easykext-utility-for-hackintosh-kext-installer/ this (reboot afterwards), and see if it fixes your problem.
