Zenshredder
Hello, so for the past month and a half or so, I've been attempting to get OSX Mavericks/Yosemite to work on my laptop and desktop. I've since moved on to just my desktop and using OSX Yosemite since it seems they both have the most suppot between one another, especially given my laptop is also an AMD system with "Dual Graphics"(yeah I know, it was a bad decision in retrospect). Moving on, I know I'm new here, but I have been a PC enthusiast for 2 years now, so I have extensive knowledge on software and hardware. So I'll go ahead and get started with listing my system specs and then move onto my issues. My Specs: AMD FX 8350 4.0Ghz CPU MSI Radeon R9 290 4GB 512-bit GPU ASUS M5A97 R2.0 Motherboard Radeon R9 4X4GB 2133Mhz Gaming RAM Corsair HX850 Gold Rated PSU Samsung 840 EVO 250GB SSD(Windows OS), WD Black 3TB Performance Drive(Games & Personal Files), WD Caviar Blue 320GB laptop drive(OSX Yosemite), LG Blu-Ray Drive(currently unused while attempting to get OSX to work) Logitech 5.1 surround sound speakers Alright, so now that's out of the way, let me explain what has happened thus far. Since I've started attempting this, I've moved on to OSX Yosemite using the Niresh distro because it's the only thing I know that supports AMD chips(if there's a better method let me know, especially with a legal copy, I'm all for it since OSX is only like $30). I can boot Yosemite with just the flags "/amd" and "-v" no problem, go through the install and get Yosemite up and running using either Chameleon OR Clover. However, as many others have these same issues, I cannot get my graphics card or audio to work properly. With an all-in-one network driver from the Niresh site, I can get internet access no problem, but it's pretty much impossible to navigate Safari thanks to all the graphics artifacts and extremely slow rendering from the "3MB" of video memory that I can extract lol. I have a set of graphics kexts that have been designed by Deepak(a member which I believe I saw is also a part of this forum) specifically for my graphics card, but whenever I install them and then repair the permissions and cache, nothing seems to change. This goes for both Chameleon and Clover configurations, I even tried the FakeID configuration with Clover using the original kexts and the modified kexts, still nothing. I will say this though, when I do use Clover, my graphics card is recognized in the Clover configuration before booting into OSX, however the card is not utilized, at least to its potential. The reason I say this is because after messing around with a few things(of which I can't remember currently) I noticed the graphics rendering quicker and the mouse would move a bit smoother, meaning I was getting more graphics power through to the system. However, I've since bricked the system after about the 15th attempt to fix this issue, so I'm pretty much at a loss here. As for the audio, I have installed a similar all-in-one package for audio drivers from the Niresh site, but none of them seem to work as I still get plenty of feedback from my speakers. I doubt anyone can give me exact step by step instructions on what I need to do here, but perhaps I'm missing something? I've noticed that there's some kexts for something called QE/CI but I've yet to try and install them to see if that changes anything, I read up on what they are and what issues that might cause but it seems that's probably not the answer in my opinion. Any help/insight is definitely appreciated, hopefully somebody can help me with this. Mr. Xtreme
Hey you need the boot flah kext-dev-mode=1 and also google or ask someone in the chat how to do a vannila amd install with yosemite. I'm praying you'll get it . Oh and to InsanelyMac!!!! 1 Quote Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/306238-several-issues-with-yosemite-10100-on-amd-build/#findComment-2138636 Share on other sites
Zenshredder
Hey you need the boot flah kext-dev-mode=1 and also google or ask someone in the chat how to do a vannila amd install with yosemite. I'm praying you'll get it . Oh and to InsanelyMac!!!! Thanks for the advice, I'll try this method and see what comes up! Also, when booting in Clover it always automatically loaded the kext-dev-mode=1 boot flag, along with dart=0 and a few others. I've been reading up on a lot of forum posts and it has come to my attention that Apple has written support for all the R9 series graphics cards EXCEPT mine, which is heartbreaking really because I just bought this card not too long ago, only then to recently discover the wonderful world of "Hackintosh". Had I known prior, I would have shelled out the extra cash for a 290X! Anyways, there seems to be several people getting theirs to work regardless of the lack of support for it, so I'm wondering whether or not those posts are a hoax or if I'm just stupid and I'm doing something wrong(probably the latter, but you never know). Also, thanks for welcoming me =D I'm excited to actually have some feedback, I signed up for the site Niresh runs but nobody has posted on any of my threads in a month... Zenshredder
So it's obviously been a while since my last post, but I haven't given up on the task of getting my graphics card to work! I attempted to do a vanilla install of OSX Yosemite, however I could not get the disk to boot or install properly. I used a friend's Mac, followed a guide showing how to install MacPwn using the OSX Installer.app file and MacPwn to create a bootable disk, however the disk would not boot properly, I could not even get to the bootflag input menu. MacPwn installed OSX and itself to the boot drive without any issues, I know this because I tried several times, making mistakes along the way, however once I got it right the drive still wouldn't boot right, so I am not sure if this is the right direction I should be taking. With this in mind, I went back to the Niresh build and encountered some "new" problems, a fresh perspective after spending several weeks trying to get a vanilla installer, only to have it fail on me *cries slightly*. The first thing I've noticed is now when I install OSX onto the disk drive I had been doing so all along, the Clover configurator tool and Clover itself do not appear at all upon the first time logging into OSX. I've had to use MacP0ison to install a newer version of Clover and it's configurator, which ends up loading properly, but also causes another problem. When I boot back into OSX once I save and import my config.plist, Clover doesn't load the preset flags, IDs, etc. when I boot the drive. I have to import the file again when I log in, and restarting to apply the changes does nothing! Before I go any further, I should also probably explain the boot process and the issues I've ran into with this as well. First off, I ABSOLUTELY CANNOT boot from the disk under any circumstance because what occurs basically bricks the OS(I'll get to this in a minute). So instead, I must boot from the boot drive first, THEN type in any bootflags I want to boot from the hard disk. If I do this, I can log into OSX successfully and try to fix/work on the OS. However, if I boot from the actual disk drive that OSX is installed on, it boots in the resolution of 1920X1080X32, which if I do this with the boot drive it also bricks the OS, but also I cannot use my wireless keyboard and mouse if I boot from the hard disk either. This is rather confusing, because it works when booting from the boot drive first, but not if I boot straight from the hard disk... Continuing on, I have a few questions in mind to ask. The first being what am I doing wrong with Clover? When I customize the install to the disk, I select "Clover Standard" and that's what has worked in the past. Using the EFI or UEFI selection makes it bootable, but my config.plist could not be created or imported with a previously created list because a certain folder was "missing" but it didn't exist in the first place. Secondly, why would the Clover configurator all of a sudden not be installed along with Clover during the install? The DMG file I'm using hasn't been touched since the last time I used it, granted it's not "vanilla" but it's the only thing that's worked(sort of) so far. I can get just about everything to work EXCEPT my graphics card. I don't require it for intense graphics applications, but I do want to be able to run OSX in 1080p without a bunch of graphics artifacts. My third question is whether or not using the "load VBios" option is a good idea? The last thing I want to do is brick my graphics card by accidentally flashing the firmware to something corrupt or incompatible, but if this would help without any risk other than possibly bricking OSX then I'm all for it, I just want to know whether or not it might help my situation.
