Since our x1600 and x1900's work out of the box in OS X86 without any modding to the kexts or the card, will they work in the mac pro since it would use the same kexts? Is there a special firmware that communicates with EFI somehow that prevents it from loading should the card not be offically apple manufactured? Just wondering. Thx.

noticed i should have put this in the hardware forum of hte macintosh.... didn't realize until after i posted. maybe a mod can move it.

Anyhow, i would love to test it except I don't have an x1900.... I have access to a mac pro (friend has one)... just need the card. :D

this is all speculation and assumptions, I really don't know for sure...

I think some people have had luck with other cards in the Mac Pro, but I'm not sure what cards. Compatibility has something to do with the 128k EFI ROM and a 64k BIOS ROM on the cards.

Also our x1600 cards don't work out of the box, maybe with the newest updates on hacked DVD installs they do, but only because Jas or someone has incorporated the Boris x1600 patch method into the DVDs. The unpatched kexts for a x1600 in a Mac won't work right in a generic box.

I've heard of people flashing cards with different ROMs, I think that's what it takes to make them work, not sure though.
