mac.nub
Hey I'm a Mac Noob, hence the forum username, anyway I was wondering if you'd be so kind as to help me/answer a question. I (ages ago) got an image of Mac OS X v10.4.1 (Deadmoo for any of those interested) Never really got round to playing with it apart from in VMWare... anyway I recently got an Intel Laptop with a Processor that supports SSE3 (Intel Core Duo 1.6Ghz) and decided to install Mac on my laptop, I wasn't able to get a newer version as my problem is i'm at uni now, and am unable to use bit-torrent here (everything has to be routed through a http proxy) Anyway using VMWare I setup the Mac image how I wanted it, installed working network drivers, then DD'd it to my hard drive on my laptop. So I now have a "Working" Mac install, I use working in the loosest sense of the word, as Safari constantly crashes, and sound etc. still doesn't work. I was wondering if it was possible to upgrade to a later version of OS X some how (without downloading a new install DVD/disk image - unless of course someone has a HTTP download for them that they would be willing to PM me - obviously don't post any links here! It's against the rules!) and if so, if someone could point me in the right direction of how to do so, I have plenty of time and am good at following install guides etc. so any help is appreciated. If not, is there a way to Fix Safari and Enable SSE3 so I can use Itunes etc? Cheers! Mac.nub
Rammjet
10.4.1 is old and busted. Apple seriously changes OSX starting with 10.4.3 and as a result most of the current OSX Intel apps won't run on 10.4.1. There is no upgrade path for 10.4.1. Find a 10.4.5, 10.4.6 or 10.4.7 install DVD iso.
mac.nub
Thanks for the info Rammjet! Is there any way to get hold of one of these without using Bittorrent? If someone could point me in the right direction i'd appreciate it... i've found a few http links but they've all been broken. Any PMs would be much appreciated
Rammjet
No, I'm pretty sure 95% of us spent time with our torrents.

jan_187
Adding them to usenet is always a good idea too Only 1 upload required and everyone can download full speed...
mac.nub
don't be afraid of torrents (as I was some time ago).. I spent day or two to download 10.4.7.. not very long time.. The problem isn't that i'm afraid of torrents, I used to use them all the time. The problem is that i'm on a University network that blocks all ports apart from 8080 which it uses for its http proxy.
