nyolc8
I'm running mavericks since it came out without a single kp or any issue... Today I wanted to start it, and the HDD turned off (I hear the spin down) on the grey apple boot screen. It hanged there. Okay, I thought I just reset and try again. This time the progress bar showed up on the grey boot screen, it went to 1/3 then HDD turn off, then... the whole PC just turned off! wtf I'm now on windows and backuping my datas from mac hd... Any idea what the hell happened? Why the hdd getting turned off while it's in the boot progress? edit: booted verbose, it says there are much file system error, and then it says hdd can't be repaired and it shutdowns properly with cpu halted messages. I tried to boot my installer which is on the hdd too, that boot process goes further but it stops when it says "mounted macintosh hd" (which is the main osx partition with the errors). edit2: my only hope is that macdrive can fix it from windows... aphex6b
if u boot in "verbose" mode next time, you will not see the grey apple / progress bar but instead a console with scrolling text and you will be better able to debug. depending on boot loader used, the method might vary a bit but the basics for booting in verbose are the same, -v as "kernel args" inside com.apple.Boot.plist, or org.chameleon.boot.plist, or clover's config.plist Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/296270-suddenly-cant-boot/#findComment-1996385 Share on other sites
nyolc8
I already tried that (see my edit) and even macdrive says it can't be repaired But I can see all my files from windows so I don't get what the hell happened suddenly. carbo178
Boot with USB Mavericks installer and repair disk permissions with disk utility, then retry boot from HD Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/296270-suddenly-cant-boot/#findComment-1996388 Share on other sites
aphex6b
a thing that comes to mind is... when using win 8, there is a setting called "hybrid / fast boot" i believe, it was added in win 8 and is enabled by default , when in a multi-boot env, this can give major filesystem corruption. Turn it off. Look in Power settings in windows for turning it off. nyolc8
I'm using win8 since it came out and never had issues regarding fast boot. So why it would happened now? I'll try to make an usb installer (now I have installer only on the hd) and repair with that. aphex6b
cause due to the nature of windows implemented this... it can go fine for multiple reboots in between, BUT sooner the later, i think you will run into the same issues, I used to have Macdrive as a Filesystem driver in Windows for reading HFS+ Volumes, but these days il use Paragon HFS for Wndows, and i know that does always gives a warning about disabling "Fast Boot" it before installing it in on a windows 8 box.
