I have OS X 10.8.5 installed. I am trying to download OS X Mavericks.  When I click the "UPGRADE - > INSTALL APP" button in App Store -> Updates section, I get a message "OS X Mavericks cannot be installed on this computer". In the "About this Mac" window, the system is identified as iMac.

Hello

Welcome

What bootloader you're using

If you're using Chameleon, you need know, that Chameleon doesn't support upgrade OSX via AppStore... Because Chameleon is a Fake_EFI bootloader... So if you want upgrade 10.8 to 10.8.5 you need install combo update, but if you want upgrade 10.8.5 to 10.9 you need re-install OSX with 10.9

If you using Clover, maybe you're making some thing wrong, because Clover support upgrade via AppStore... see more about this in this guide:http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/294947-guide-upgrade-mountain-lion-for-mavericks-like-a-real-mac-clover/

There was no SMBios.plist file in /Extra.  That was the reason for the error message "OS X Mavericks cannot be installed on this computer", when trying to download OS X Mavericks from the App Store. Generated SMBios.plist through Chameleon Wizard and am now able to start the Mavericks download. Thanks.

Hello

SMbios and org.chameleon... are main files... you must have them in Extra folder

But like i said... Chameleon doesn't support upgrade via AppStore.

Good Luck with all!

This is very interesting as I started out trying to download Mavericks on my hack. I do use Chameleon on my GA-EX58-UD5

I had the necessary files in /Extra loaded on the root of my boot drive. What is org.chameleon? I have never seen that file?

I finally was able to purchase Mavericks 10.9.1 but did download the .raw file from olarila.com. I formatted the USB as MacOS Extended (Journaled) and loaded the .raw file into that USB with one partition. Could we go over that procedure privately?

/Extra/org.chameleon.Boot.plist is required, it contains configuration settings for Chameleon and flags passed to the kernel.

You can download Mavericks of course but you have to perform a clean installation using standard Hackintosh methods to prepare it. You can't do an "upgrade installation" like on a real Mac.

Mavericks is free so I don't see how you could purchase it.

Please don't "go over procedures privately" it's important to share information. This forum would be useless if everybody went over things privately.

As with TonyMac tools - not that anything from Olarila is against our rules, as far as I know, but If you're using methods and files provided by Olarila then why don't you go to Olarila for support instead of asking here?

Because my 10.6.8 EX-58-UD5 hack wouldn't download Mavericks from the APP Store, because; as I have come to learn, I was running Chameleon boot loader and that would not allow the APP Store to see my computer as valid. I found a real Mac dealer selling Mavericks 10.9.1 on Ebay.

As far as Olarila, I was advised by one of the staff here on Insanely Mac to download a pre-configurd USB image, since I was unable to use the Terminal procedures to build an EFI bootable USB. If I had thought this would have been helpful to others, I would not have ask for offline help.

Sorry if I tripped over rules! I apoligize!!

App store works just fine for me with Chameleon, always has. I bought Lion and Mountain Lion on the App store, and installed them using Chameleon.

If the App Store doesn't work for you, there's a configuration issue with your installation.

Don't pay for Mavericks, it's free. "a real Mac dealer" doesn't charge for Mavericks, he's pulling a fast one on both Apple and you.

You can use the USB Image Tool to write the usb image file to your USB disk.

If you have purchased the maverick dvd from the ebay dealer, get the ISO of the dvd, convert the ISO to .DMG using disk utility and then use myHack to select the dmg file and write to the USB disk.
