Hi,

i have problems with my system:

-Dell XPS 600 with Pentium 4, 3,4GHz (yes, Pentium and single-core)
-4x1GB RAM
-nVidia GeForce 7800 GTX
-Snow Leopard 10.6.8

Since a few month a got problem while updating. The first kernel panic (screenshot below) was while installing the "security-update 2013-002", all newer security-updates cause the same problem.

But a few weeks ago i got the same problem also when updating iTunes, Mozilla Firefox (25.0) and Adobe Acrobat Pro.

I didn't change the hardware, last year the RAM was extended from 2 to 4GB. Any ideas or solutions?

Thanks!

Take care that the updates don't overwrite your patched kernel. One way to avoid this is to rename it and load it from /Extra/org.chameleon.Boot.plist with kernel=patched_kernel. It doesn't matter which name you give it.

Consider using the Chameleon kernelpatcher module instead, this should patch an unmodified kernel on the fly...although, this module wasn't available when I last installed OS X on a P4..so I'm not sure that it'll patch the kernel so that it works on a P4 CPU...but it's definitely worth a try.

Hello,

are you sure that the panic is caused by updating for example Adobe?

I got kernel panic when updating only:

-Safari or

-iTunes or

-Adobe Acrobat Pro or

-security update or

-perhaps a few other programs, i didn't try all updates.

Edit: Attached screenshot while updating Safari.
