skredii
I have a problem with the speed of my internet connection under OSX 10.4.7 (JaS). My download rates start at 1MB/s but after a few seconds then fall to 170 KB/s !!! Now here is the strange thing, I tested the speed of the internet connection under Parallels running Windows XP. Thus the instance of Parallels runs inside OSX 10.4.7 (JaS). I got stable download rates at 1MB/s !!! Thus that let me think there's an internal problem with OSX. Please have a look at those screenshots: Here the download rate in firefox under OSX 10.4.7 => 171 KB/s Here the download rate in Safari under OSX 10.4.7 => 177 KB/s: Here the download rate in Internet Explorer under Parallels running Windows XP => 1000 KB/s Also I referenced the IP of my router as the DNS server (which is optional). My conclusions are that something is wrong with OSX. Any help will be appreciated... skredii
I doubt it is related to the adapter cause I tried with the onboard LAN adapter and with a usb dongle wireless adapter. Same results. Here is my config: my board: Intel D945GNTLR with integrated LAN controller 10/100 LAN. (10/100 Mbits/sec LAN subsystem using the Intel® 82562GX/82562GZ PLC device). + ASUS WL-167G (wireless USB dongle) And what exactly is your config and your problem? Wees gegroet MikeNL :-p Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/29036-slow-internet-connection/#findComment-199591 Share on other sites

asapreta
My internet connection on X never was fast. In my old rig (P4 + P4P800 + realtek nic card) and the new one (sig) never got more than 200k download speed. In windows I reach 1000K. I think its something with the automatic settings, link 100 full speed and so on.. skredii
Hey asapreta! Thanks for your reply! I tried to play with those settings and set them manually. I tried the following settings under Ethernet: - 100baseTX half-duplex - 100baseTX full-duplex - 10baseT/UTP half-duplex - 10baseT/UTP full-duplex None of them gave me full speed, so I guess this is not the problem, I set it back to automatic. Maybe some revelant info about my kext related to network: AppleIntel8254XEthernet: Version: 1.1.2 Last Modified: 04/01/06 03:38 Get Info String: 1.1.2, Copyright Apple Computer, Inc. 2005 Location: /System/Library/Extensions/IONetworkingFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns/AppleIntel8254XEthernet.kext kext Version: 1.1.2 Load Address: 0x2981b000 Valid: Yes Authentic: Yes Dependencies: Incomplete Dependency Errors: com.apple.iokit.IONetworkingFamily: No valid version of this dependency can be found Integrity: Kext is modified AppleIntel8255x: Version: 1.4 Last Modified: 04/01/06 03:39 Get Info String: 1.4, Copyright Apple Computer, Inc. 2001-2004 Location: /System/Library/Extensions/IONetworkingFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns/AppleIntel8255x.kext kext Version: 1.4 Load Address: 0x23bd5000 Valid: Yes Authentic: Yes Dependencies: Incomplete Dependency Errors: com.apple.iokit.IONetworkingFamily: No valid version of this dependency can be found Integrity: Kext is modified IONetworkingFamily: Version: 1.5.0 Last Modified: 04/01/06 03:47 Get Info String: Version 1.5.0, Copyright 2000-2005 Apple Computer, Inc. jonokti
Do you Use Comcast? I remember reading something on the Apple site where they fixed that in one of their updates. http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=304200 Networking and modem Resolves performance issues that could occur when connecting to a Comcast network.
