Shane 2
Successfully installed Mavericks on my system in a day, now I'm wondering if hardware RAID is possible. I'm running my machine on an old P5B Deluxe board which has an ICH8R south bridge which supports RAID. Currently my system only boots with AHCI option, I'm wondering if RAID will be possible? Thanks! 3.14r2
No, on board RAIDs only work if a driver is present. AFAIK Intel supports only Windows/Linux(?) with an appropriate driver. On board RAIDs are software RAIDs by design. ludacrisvp
Correct, that 'on-board' RAID solution is a software setup in 90% of cases. If the BIOS allows for setup of the controller to be either IDE or AHCI or RAID mode _AND_ allows you to pick more advanced options of RAID being things like RAID 0/1, RAID 0, RAID 1, RAID 5 etc... then it would seem to be a hardware RAID solution and might work and be transparent to the OS. Rampage Dev
No, ICH RAID will not work. You could do a software raid prior to installing in Disk Utility if you would like to do that. Post install to make the system boot is a bit different and there are several guides here on IM for raid.
