1. I can not manage to install Catalina on this legacy Asus machine that runs Mojave fine. When the installer boots up, DiskUtility does not see the internal hard-drives, neither the master SATA one or the the slave, ATA one. I have discussed this already on the Clover section with Slice, he told that some kext seems to have changed from Mojave to Catalina, he told me to use IOReg. Since then, I have postponed my work on Catalina due to the issues regarding the Mojave supplemental updates. I have decided to start a new topic in here, due to visibility reasons and some new turn. The latest version of the dosdude1 patcher for unsupported Macs, discussed on Macrumors forums, patches the installer so that DiskUtility sees the internal hard-drives, I am able to install Catalina but, on first boot, the OS gets into a kernal panic with the message ”still waiting for root device”. I have searched online for this error, I have found Information regarding previous macOS versions with solutions that seem to have little to no relevance for the present issue. Before installation finishes, I receive a message like ”Installation finished on Macintosh HD Data”, instead of ”Installation finished on Macintosh HD”. I admit this split between the two in Catalina still confuses me, perhaps this is how it was suppose to be? Perhaps something that was suppose to end up on Macintosh HD ends in Macintosh HD Data? I admit the DVD-Rom and hard-drives are wired kinda of weird by some guy in a PC service, he said this is the optimum combination, something the ATA hard-drive is slave to the DVD-Rom. Perhaps this causes confusion into Catalina? On Mojave this configuration was fine. Probably the solution suggested by Slice is the best, to replace one or more kext from Catalina with the Mojave versions of them. I do not know yet how to identify and replace them. If any other solutions seem possible, I am open to them. Specs: Asus P5P41TED motherboard. Intel Core 2 Duo E 8500 2 gb ram DDR 3

Internal Drives as removable media

My SATA internal drives are being shown as removable media. I had this problem before with Mountain Lion, and something on the iAtkos ML2 disc fixed it (it was a kext). I just cannot remember the name now. Any ideas?
3. I installed a second hard drive into my Alienware M14x by replacing the optical drive with a caddy. I installed lion on the second hard drive, and it boots fine, but it's really slow after it boots. Sometimes when I click on anything, it just hangs for about 10 seconds then loads, but it's pretty inconsistent - sometimes its fine, sometimes it hangs. It's odd because I had lion working perfectly fine in the primary HDD bay, but when I move it to the optical drive caddy, it's slows down. I was having this same problem in Windows, but I fixed it by installing Intel's Rapid Storage Technology drivers. Is there some sort of equivalent Kext, or something else that I should be doing to make it work properly? System Information says it's got an Intel 6 Series chipset. I know the optical drive port is only SATA 1.5 Gbps, but I don't think that should really affect it as much as it is.
4. Hi everyone. I have a problem with my hackintosh recognizing my SSD Expresscard drive on boot. I have an HP DV8t Pavilion laptop, and everything working as I want but this. I can get the drive to mount when closing the lid and putting the computer to sleep then waking it. However, no matter what I try, I cannot get it recognized at boot. I initially wanted to boot os x from this drive, but it cannot be done I don't believe. I've tried many DSDT mods but haven't found one that recognizes it at boot. I am also using a jmicron ata kext. If anyone has any information, please let me know! (I attached my current dsdt.dsl, my ioReg dump when mounted, and puts my lscpi ,with jmicron sata bolded, here): 00:00.0 Host bridge [0600]: Intel Corporation Arrandale DRAM Controller [8086:0044] (rev 02) 00:01.0 PCI bridge [0604]: Intel Corporation Arrandale PCI Express x16 Root Port [8086:0045] (rev 02) 00:1a.0 USB Controller [0c03]: Intel Corporation Ibex Peak USB2 Enhanced Host Controller [8086:3b3c] (rev 05) 00:1b.0 Audio device [0403]: Intel Corporation Ibex Peak High Definition Audio [8086:3b56] (rev 05) 00:1c.0 PCI bridge [0604]: Intel Corporation Ibex Peak PCI Express Root Port 1 [8086:3b42] (rev 05) 00:1c.1 PCI bridge [0604]: Intel Corporation Ibex Peak PCI Express Root Port 2 [8086:3b44] (rev 05) 00:1c.4 PCI bridge [0604]: Intel Corporation Ibex Peak PCI Express Root Port 5 [8086:3b4a] (rev 05) 00:1c.7 PCI bridge [0604]: Intel Corporation Ibex Peak PCI Express Root Port 8 [8086:3b50] (rev 05) 00:1d.0 USB Controller [0c03]: Intel Corporation Ibex Peak USB2 Enhanced Host Controller [8086:3b34] (rev 05) 00:1e.0 PCI bridge [0604]: Intel Corporation 82801 Mobile PCI Bridge [8086:2448] (rev a5) 00:1f.0 ISA bridge [0601]: Intel Corporation Ibex Peak LPC Interface Controller [8086:3b03] (rev 05) 00:1f.2 SATA controller [0106]: Intel Corporation Ibex Peak 6 port SATA AHCI Controller [8086:3b2f] (rev 05) 00:1f.3 SMBus [0c05]: Intel Corporation Ibex Peak SMBus Controller [8086:3b30] (rev 05) 00:1f.6 Signal processing controller [1180]: Intel Corporation Ibex Peak Thermal Subsystem [8086:3b32] (rev 05) 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: nVidia Corporation Unknown device [10de:0a28] (rev a2) 01:00.1 Audio device [0403]: nVidia Corporation Unknown device [10de:0be2] (rev a1) 02:00.0 Network controller [0280]: Atheros Communications Inc. 5. Hey, I want to use 7 drives on my ASUS X Hero MB. The MB supports up to 6 SATA drives, and also has 2 M.2 slots, so I thought it was possible to run at least 7 drives. Apparently, it isn´t that easy. I have a Samsung 850 EVO MZ-N5E500BW M.2 drive that I use as boot drive. It´s a SATA drive, and from what I can read, using a SATA drive in the M.2 slot will either disable one or two of the other SATA slots, depending on which type of M.2 setup you choose. So now I can only use a total of SIX slots in the machine for storage, which is a huge bummer, since I need the extra SSD drive. I can of course connect the extra SSD drive via an adapter and use an external USB port, but that´s a very impractical solution. QUESTION: Can anyone tell me if it´s possible to somehow connect 7 drives to my ASUS X Hero MB? (Buying a new PCIE M.2 drive is not an option, since the M.2 drive I have is the boot drive, and I don´t wanna F around with cloning, replacing etc) Thanks in advance!
6. Caros amigos, Tenho uma instalação do 10.6.5 rodando muito bem há quase 2 anos, sem problemas. Hoje fui tentar gravar um DVD e... simplesmente parou de reconhecer meu drive! Do nada!
7. Hello nice people, What I wanted to do that is the following : For example on the hackintosh to make a backup on an internal sata disk (remote backup with rsync for example, or something else) . Then if something goes wrong with the hack I should be able to remove this internal hard disk and to connect it to a real mac in USB ,so that I can get back my files (even more better be able to boot). I did the following : I partition (GUID/mac OSX journalisé) an external disk connected in USB to a real mac, it is recognized when the disk is connected via USB on the hackintosh. BUT il the disk is inserted in the hackintosh as internal via SATA, it is not recognized anymore. Furthermore the partition is now MBR/ FDisk_partition_scheme. Only the first partition can be seen on Disk utility (or in terminal with diskutil list) but I cannot mounted it (and seen on the finder). The problem is the same the other way around. I mean partition an internal sata disk on the hack, then remove it and connect it in USB to the real mac. Then it is not recognized ... Why is it so ? Any idea and solution ? Sorry for my english, I hope I made myself clear…. Many thanks Dominique Build : Snow-Leopard OSX 10.6.8 / GigabyteGA-H67MA-UD2H (Rev. B3) F8 / i3-2105 sandybridge
8. Hi everybody. I'm trying to install El Capitan on an Acer Aspire E5-573, but I'm stuck in installer, which is not showing up the internal hard disk. I already installed the system with the hard drive connected into a USB case, but when I try to boot it without the USB Case, the boot get stucked at the "prohibited" logo (I think this is getting 'still waiting for root device'). I suspect that the main problem is the Intel9 Series SATA Controller, which is not being recognized by the El Capitan. I already tried 3 types of kexts for activate the SATA controller, but no lucky at all. The system specs: Acer Aspire E5-573 Processor Intel Core i5 5200U Integrated Graphics Intel HD 5500 (will fight with that {censored} later) Intel 9 Series Chipset 12GB RAM Wireless Atheros AR9565 (will be replaced) Ethernet Realtek RTL8168/8111 Audio Realtek ALC255 So I'm bumping my head into the wall through the last 5 days with no luck to get this machine up and working. Any help will be welcome! Thx.
9. Hi, i buy a new hackingtosh with maverik last version. mi motherboard, gigabyte GA-X79S-UP5 have 8 connectors SAS, 6 sata the sata connector is ok, but i want to put 14 HARD DISK, so, i want to connect in the SAS connector, is sata same. when i connect the sata (in the sas connector), in the boot recognize all the disk, so i created the RAID VOLUME with 4 hard disk, here is all OK, but when the MAVERIK OSx lunch, in the finder didnt appeare the RAID. only my SSD system OSx. so, i think that i must update the SAS CONTROLLER for the mother, in the web of GIGABYTE said. Intel SAS RAID Preinstall driver Note: Press F6 during Windows setup to read from floppy. link http://ar.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4... for windows not for mac, so, I HAVE NOT A FLOPPY, i copy the drivers in a flash usb, but F6 didnt work in MAC. didnt reconoze the RAID disks. and if i didnt do the RAID disk, and connect the disk clean to the connector SAS, the system dosent recognize the disk separately not RAID. SOMEBODY HELP ME, sorry my english, im from argentina.
10. Hey guys! I have already got Snow Leopard 10.6.8 installed on my Desktop PC, and now I would like to install it on my laptop. Laptop data: Motherboard: Clevo M7X0SU Front Side Bus: Intel GTL+ (64 Bit) Chipset: Intel QM67 (afaik) CPU: Intel Pentium Dual CPU T3200 (2000 MHz) RAM: 4GB BIOS: Phoenix BIOS (from 10.02.2008) Graphics: NVidia GeForce 9300M GS SATA HD: FUJITSU MHZ2320BH G2 ATA Device (298 GB) Disk drive: MAT{censored}A DVD-RAM UJ870QJ ATA Device The laptops hard disk is connected over SATA and has three partitions: - On the first partition theres GRUB as bootloader and the Windows 7 partition (NTFS) - On the second theres the System Reserved partition for Windows 7 (NTFS) - On the third partiton theres Fedora installed (HFS+ i think) I am trying to boot with iB00t 3.2 and the retail Snow Leopard 10.6 disk. I want to remove Linux, format its partition and install Mac OSX instead of it. The problem is that it says Still waiting for root device when booting in verbose mode, so I think it does not detect my hard disk drive. AHCI Mode is on! Do you have any idea what I could do? Here i've uploaded screenshots of the BIOS, Chimera and what Darwin verbose mode tells me. When using a distribution like iAtkos L2 its exactly the same. Thank you in advance! Max
11. Hi everybody After some years being away from the hackintosh world, I decided to come back and tried to install Yosemite on my weird chinese mini computer (mobo WTM-i5HX, Intel Celeron 1037U). Unfortunately I cannot enable AHCI. There is nothing I can do, I checked everywhere and there is no BIOS version to do that. My internal hard drive is not detected by the OSX setup, I can boot with no problem using the latest Chameleon, all my drives/partitions are seen on the boot menu, the problem is that the Disk Utility doesn't see anything but my USB stick. In the Windows device manager, I can found the hardware ID of the controller on which the disk is plugged in. It is 1c01, with the manufacturer 8086 (Intel), more information here: http://pci-ids.ucw.cz/read/PC/8086 In the original AppleAHCIPort.kext, I can see that the 1c02 and 1c03 are configured for the Intel6SeriesAHCI. I tried a ratchet insertion here by adding <string>pci8086,1c01</string> and ended up with a KP. I'm feeling close to a solution but cannot pinpoint what to do, where to insert that or how to do it. Do you have any idea? Thanks!
12. Hi All! I have a successful build but im experiencing some power issues. After reboot my 2 WD Black drives are not to be found. Only by powering down, unplugging power cable and turning on, do they reappear. Furthermore some USB ports dont have power after sleep. Any help for these issues? i followed this guide http://hackintosher.com/guides/guide-installing-macos-kabylake-hackintosh-sierra/ MOBO: GA-Z270X-UD5 CPU: i7700k GPU: 1080 Ti OS: 10.12.6
13. Okay So I have two PCIe controller cards, both 3rd party, unbranded from eBay. 1st runs off the Marvell 88SE92xx chipset. 4 Internal Ports. https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/PCI-E-PCI-Express-to-SATA3-0-4Port-SATA-III-6G-Expansion-Controller-Card-Adapter/264029216955?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649 2nd runs off the ASMedia ASM1061 chipset. 2 Internal/ 2 External Ports (selectable by jumpers) https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/PCI-E-To-SATA3-PCI-E-SATA3-0-6Gb-s-the-SSD-Asmedia-Chip-Expansion-Card-ASM1061/191572577652?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649 The hack is running stable no issues on 10.4.2 with an i7 8700k ASUS Maximus X Code as iMac 18,3 However, I wanted to add eSATA ports for some older drive enclosures I own, and some extra internal SATA ports as I've used all the SATA ports on the Motherboard. The 1st Marvell actually works OOB in Mac OSX. No kexts needed. Speeds seem good (350R/400W on an SSD 80R/W on a 5400 HDD) However, a few things don't seem perfect. 1) the AHCI version is 1.0. I imagine this could and should be a newer version? 1.2 or 1.31? If it should be updated, is this something only able to be flashed from a Windows OS? 2) It can't be used as a boot option. the Maximus doesn't recognise it as a startup option. Is this a possible AHCI version firmware issue? Is booting ever possible from these controllers? 3) TRIM was disabled in system profile. I know it automatically worked OOB for my NVME2 drives connected to the motherboard, But to enable Trim on an SSD 860 EVO I needed to submit the terminal command: sudo trimforce enable Now the second ASMedia controller I haven't been able to get to work. I've switched the jumpers (not sure which position is the 1,2,3) so I've made it so that one internal and one external will operate to test the card. System profiler sees the card like all the others as a "Generic AHCI Controller" with AHCI version 1.20 supported. However, I cannot get any drive to be recognised in the eSATA ports. I haven't tested the internal ports as I don't need these. I've attempted using two kexts (attached) AHCI_3rdParty_eSATA.kext and AHCIPortInjector.kext When I use AHCIPortInjector.kext the SATA device is recognised in system profiler as an ASM1062. However no drive works with this kext. And reading the chip itself on the card it says ASM1061. So not sure why it's preferring the 1062 entry over the 1061 since both are present in the kext. When I use AHCI_3rdParty_eSATA.kext that SATA device is not recognised at all in the system profiler. It disappears. I'm not using a custom DSDT for this motherboard and I've attached my config.plist if anyone has some insight on either cards. Cheers, Shark config-NOSN.plist AHCI_3rdParty_eSATA.kext.zip AHCIPortInjector.kext.zip

16. Hi to all, this is my first post here! I want to set up a mac os x server for my internal needs, actually i've a linux machine with virtualization stuff installed on. My actual server uses a 8x500gb hdd connected to a LSI 8408E raid controller as storage and i want to use this in my mac os x based server. From what i understand this controller isin't supported by lsi kext, but i've founded only old discussions :\ ( http://www.insanelym...dpost&p=1409995 ) Any news? Thank you!
17. ok so i have a dual booted system with windows xp and ubuntu. i download iatkos L2 and i could not boot the disc. however, switching my hardrive from SATA to AHCI mode allowed me to boot the disc. does this mean that osx lion only runs on AHCI? if so what happens if i install it? that's means i can't boot to XP then and i would have to go to bios each time if i wanted to switch to xp or lion since xp runs only on SATA for me and lion would run only on AHCI??!?!?!? 19. This project is actually two years old, but despite the aging SATA standard, still current as an idea. And of course - conforming hackintosh different thinking. I invite you to my shop for a short film of the "Do it yourself" series.

21. Successfully installed Mavericks on my system in a day, now I'm wondering if hardware RAID is possible. I'm running my machine on an old P5B Deluxe board which has an ICH8R south bridge which supports RAID. Currently my system only boots with AHCI option, I'm wondering if RAID will be possible? Thanks!
22. Hello All, I was given an Asus Eeepc 901 netbook recently. So i thought why not install lion on it! I know the processor is N270 which is 32 bit and lion don't support 32 bit but i remember back in 2012, I installed lion on my X60s which featured a 32 bit processor but its quite fast. So i have installed lion on its 8gb ssd. Every apps works! By its really slow. Because firstly the laptop bios have no achi option, secondly the ssd writing and reading speed according to: http://ssd.userbenchmark.com/SpeedTest/8580/ASUS-PHISON-SSDis very slow, thirdly if I'm not wrong this ssd is a PATA meaning IDE kind. So i flashed a custom bios made by a Japanese guy who enabled the achi option in the bios. Now its slightly faster. Im thinking of upgrading the currently ssd to msata. But i seen a lot of people saying its not possible without some mod as the asus uses something called flash_con. Despite the msata and mini PCI-E look resembles but its not the same due to the pin layout or something like that. After several hours of researching, I saw on Ebay where a guy is selling an adaptor: http://www.ebay.com/itm/mini-pci-e-msata-SSD-to-SATA-Mini-PCIE-adapter-card-/221818510797 I presume the adaptor is to convert msata to mini pci-e. The seller claimed that:" The speed and other properties is not changed, only form conversion interface. " So I wonder if i buy this and a msata, will this adaptor change the msata sata to IDE? Reason is because i need it to be in SATA mode, as I want to enable trim function in Mac OS X. Thanks Hi, any Mod who reading this, maybe you want to move this thread to the hardware components IDE/SATA section? Im so sorry, as i didn't saw the IDE/SATA section before posting this. Thank you very much
