rsc-pl
Hi I have a problem. After 3 days fighting to boot osx installer, yesterday I finally installed 10.8.2. But I need 10.8.3 for full graphic acceleration (radeon 7000 series) . So I decided to update it by combo update. To install 10.8.2 I used iRimbi (10.8.1 acpi kexts, standard = kernel panic). Kernel, the only one which is working - amd_kernel4 (sintek (?) so it is using resources from 10.8.0). After update there is a problem - kernel panic with apci. I tried to install acpi kexts from 10.8.2 (the working ones) by kext utility (the same resault, and yes I tried to boot it by correct amd kernel). Thanks in advance for help, I have no idea what I should to do.. rsc-pl
Solved. I found another kernel. It works, graphic acceleration also... but there is a lot of artifacts/glitches ... like this: Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/288845-amd-fx-8350-acpi-problem-after-update-to-1083/#findComment-1919214 Share on other sites
theconnactic
There's no solution for this yet. Try to disable hardware acceleration in the browsers. Or buy a HD5450 - will also have glitches, but they will be minimal, and all games and multimedia software will work properly. And - most important - it will work with Lion 10.7.5, the most stable OSX iteration for AMD machines to date. All the best. P.S.: Another advantage, the HD 5450 is a very cheap card. PS if you go that route, please be sure to buy the HD 5450 in the silent version (0x 68f91002), Which is the one that works best. 1 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/288845-amd-fx-8350-acpi-problem-after-update-to-1083/#findComment-1919215 Share on other sites
rsc-pl
Thanks for your suggestion I bought 2 weeks ago 7850. But what do you think, if I buy 5450, can I put it into my mobo next to 7850 (a have 2 PCI-e slots)? ( I think the PciRootUID=x is the right command to select graphic card?). I want to use OS X in most time, but sometimes I need windows, because some games are available only for windows (or I bought them for windows) and replacing gpu every time will be very inconvenient. http://allegro.pl/radeon-hd-5450-ddr2-64bit-i3286111291.html This one will be good? BTW: 10.8.3 is very stable on this amd CPU, the only one bug is this artifacts. theconnactic
But what do you think, if I buy 5450, can I put it into my mobo next to 7850 Yes, but turn Crossfire off! Remember to buy the HD5450 silent (i recommend Sapphiretech in this case), because it's the one which appears to work better both in Mountain Lion and Lion. Another thing: it won't work out of the box - you'll have to patch two kexts for it to work (check the working cards topic). There will be some glitches in the file preview and the Desktop ("ghost windows"), but VLC, MPlayerX, the Adobe CS6 suite, the DVD player will run properly, as well as Bioshock, Trine II, Rome Total War, Galaxy on Fire and Amnesia, and all browsers (but you'll have to turn off composite drawing in all of them, and Firefox will be the best to work). About that linked card, that one is ddr2 and different from the one i tested, this one will be better: http://www.sapphiret...sn=&lid=1&leg=0 Good luck! rsc-pl
Now opera is working ok (because it doesn't suppert gpu acceleration I think, and this is ok, opera is my favourite browser) VLC, Logic Pro also. In all... desktop sometimes is buggy (I will post screenshot later), but all windows are clear. I don't know about gaming, because I didn't test anything yet. theconnactic
Did you already buy the 5450? Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/288845-amd-fx-8350-acpi-problem-after-update-to-1083/#findComment-1919486 Share on other sites
rsc-pl
no, previous post is about hd7850. I'm searching for hd5450, but used (30% price of new in most cases ) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/288845-amd-fx-8350-acpi-problem-after-update-to-1083/#findComment-1919489 Share on other sites
theconnactic
Well, test games with 7850, i'm curious! Seems to me you won't need at all the 5450 -unless you want to try Lion, since it's far more stable then Mountain Lion on AMD. if you can watch any movies and play any games. The dock, does it work? Also, download Cinebench and please run the OpenGL test. All the best! rsc-pl
(after minimizing window, but not always) I will test some games later, and also do a cinebench test Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/288845-amd-fx-8350-acpi-problem-after-update-to-1083/#findComment-1919492 Share on other sites
theconnactic
The desktop is behaving exactly the way it will behave with the 5450 under Mountain Lion: residual ("ghost") pieces of windows and icons previously opened. You have to shake a window or pass the mouse over them to make them disappear. rsc-pl
Cinebench ... So it is no need to test games I think, because they simply won't work..
