Any Hope of Getting a SATA Optical Drive Working?

I'd like a second DVD drive in my machine, but there is only one IDE connector on the board (which currently holds the startup drive and a DVD-RW).

I have four internal SATA ports and have tried connecting the LiteOn SHD-16S1S-05 SATA drive to one of them, but the drive is not recognized AT ALL.

Is there any hope of getting a SATA optical drive working on a Hackintosh?

;)

More information needed :construction:

Can you see the SATA port from OSX?

If not you need to find a working kext for your SATA chip...

I've got Samsung SATA DVDRW drive and it works perfectly (apart from no sound, as the drive does not have sound ouput ;) )

Another update:

I had my SATA ports configured as AHCI.

When I switched them back to IDE, the drive was recognized as ATAPI. Damn.

I guess there is no way to configure some of the SATA ports as AHCI (for the hard drives) and some as IDE on the Intel D945GNT, right?

That sucks, because the RAID was running great as AHCI. Maybe I should send this drive back. It seems to have been falsely advertised as a SATA drive when in fact it is just a drive with a SATA connector, but not a native SATA drive.

Any other ideas on this issue?
