fallenangel975
Ok, I have deadmoo running on my pc now and am faced with a rather odd decision to make. #1, I love the Tiger 'experience' and find it rather refreshing (I do come from an old school DOS/Windows background). Should I deal with some of the issues that x86 has at the moment and get my 'apple' fix by doing the $199 mac option, or rather pull the trigger on the $499 Mini? How long will this version of OS X x86 be able to run basically as an internet browsing, e-mail, IM & music machine? I'm an occasional gamer, and my PC can handle that stuff. Either way, I fully plan to go legit. I'm not out to rip Apple Computer off by any means, OS X really is a great product. I guess my point is that of is the $199 Mac worth the $ and potential issues? Thanks a ton, everyone here as opened my eyes to the world of Apple. GuySmiley
IMHO nobody here is here to rip-off Apple. It's been said repeatedly in this forum and elsewhere that most of the Osx86 enthusiasts would cough up the cash for a genuine MacTel license if or when it becomes officially available. The issue now is whether Apple will embrace the opportunity they have before them or will merely release locked-in versions in future, see TPM, and as such encourage use (hate the word piracy) of non-official hacked versions of OsX86... Agreed. I have a real Mac, and use the OS X x86 version only for playing around, and testing applications to see how they interact with an Intel processor. My main OS on my PC is still Windows XP I see nothing wrong with people downloading the DVD and installing it to play around, and so forth. I do see something wrong with someone doing that to build a primary machine. quixos
i spent 60 dollars on a compatible motherboard and have had a lot of fun exploring and experiencing osX. i owned a g4 back in the day, and have spent some time on a mac mini. the g4 is unsuprisingly blown away by what i've put together, and the mac mini doesn't feel sluggish, but "deliberate" might be an accurate description. mac mini's are not hasty. hahahah listening to the comments of people who put together systems on irc, many aren't whole heartedly satisfied. no matter the rationilizations, they cheaped out on CPU. i'm using a p4 3.0ghz Northwood (already had it, so i'm cheap myself ), and i AM enthused by the performance and stability, rosetta works! osX in this beta will NOT allow you to back up or play DRM'd dvds. your printer will work or it will NOT. you have a choice of EITHER Java OR Shockwave at any one time in any browser. if you enjoy computers, tweaking, finding alternatives, and can work around browser and plugin (rosetta on, rosetta off, two sites, i need java for so far) issues, go for it. don't skimp on CPU or RAM, build an osXtoy to hold you over till 2006. p.s. mac mini's are for grandmas. p.p.s. you likely waste more than $199 on something each month, i know i do!
