Well, if you're typing "platform=acpi:x86pc", that may be your problem. Its either =acpi OR x86pc, not both.

With vmware or TransMac

I am having the same problem trying native install under VMWare. I checked the contents of Generic-Tiger.iso. There's no extentions at all under /use/library. What else could cause the problem.

;)

***** Found where my problem at the following paragraph explained it. I was mounting ISO image as VMWare CD-Rom which might be the problem to cause I/O error. I will try to use physical DVD to intall then let's see what happened.

Sounds like your hardware is not supported. Try swapping out the CD-ROM

with another drive.

Your machine booted far enough to load various files from the CD, but

not far enough to read the HFS+ filesystem metadata. "hfs_mountroot

failed 5" means I/O error occurred.

I do have linux installed on the computer if that'll help...

what is transmac?

Transmac is a progran that can read HFS partitions or images. There is another program that read HFS called MacDrive.

The Generic Tiger can not be assign as an image in VMWare, you need to burn the image or mounted with tool like Daemon Tools or Nero Image Drive, then in VMWare asign the CD/DVD to the letter of the virtual drive.

I don't remember that last post, but now I'm in Windows, but yeah sometimes I post from MacOS either in with the PC or my PowerBook.

What I never did is with MacOS X in Vmware, I just use it for some testing and copy or modify files between the real HD and the VirtualHD

Hey macgirl... I'm trying to learn all this Mac OS stuff... but how did you determine the ATI and CHUD from the image? I don't see any reference to them directly unless you can read the dump code directly...

To me, all I saw was the USB HD failing to be mounted...

I saw the specs in his configuration, AFAIK all ATI cards has problems with the kexts and also CHUD* cause probs on non Intel boxes.

If the USB drive fails to mount it should appear the waiting for root device, but when kexts fail the message of the KDP poll... debugger... appears.
