Monkey D. Luffy
Hey Guys, I'm just wondering if the GT 610 video card will work out of the box from 10.8.2? I'm setting up a hackintosh for my parents and will send it overseas. As much as possible, I don't want to have to tell my dad to type and edit some kext files If not, what would be a very cheap video card I can use? Will the Geforce 210 be more friendly? Thanks! Monkey D. Luffy
at 4pm EST today, the GT 620 will be on sale on newegg for $14 after rebate. What are your thoughts about the GT 620 over 610 (about osx compatibility). Thanks!
mitch_de
I would avoid x210 / x220 cards and use x230 / x240 gpus - much faster VRAM / speed againgst lowest end GT 210 / GT 220. Even oldi 9600 GT / 8800 GT / 9800 GT is much faster than GT 220.

Rampage Dev
It is a very weak card. Weaker then intels HD4000.
mitch_de
It is a very weak card. Weaker then intels HD4000. Thats correct. I mean, that not all need very fast gpus, but in Speed/US$ you get better low end cards. OOB isnt real if you need to patch some of the .kext! Chameleons ge=yes works more easily. Also, 610 can do CUDA/OpenCL (& CoreImage) but its very slow in this gpu computing - if you use Toast 11 Boost Encoder for h264 gpu encoding (uses CUDA) then you would get much faster gpu boost with at least GT 630. Such an gpu (610) may an good way if the Mac/PC runs only Office products, without use of OpenGL and OpenCL functions. Please try OpenCL Oceanwave & Bandwidth test - an GT 610 result is missing for the result base. http://www.insanelym...-07-march-2013/ Nvidia Infos: 610 (29 Watt max. ) : 48CUDA Cores 6.5Texture Fill Rate (billion/sec) Memory Specs: 1.8 GbpsMemory Clock 1024MBStandard Memory Config DDR3Memory Interface 64-bitMemory Interface Width 14.4Memory Bandwidth (GB/sec) 620 (49 Watt max.): 96CUDA Cores 11.2Texture Fill Rate (billion/sec) Memory Specs: 1.8 GbpsMemory Clock 1024 MBStandard Memory Config DDR3Memory Interface 64-bitMemory Interface Width 14.4Memory Bandwidth (GB/sec) 630 (65 Watt max.): 96CUDA Cores 13.0Texture Fill Rate (billion/sec) Memory Specs: 3.2 or 1.8 GbpsMemory Clock 1024 MBStandard Memory Config DDR3\GDDR5Memory Interface 128-bitMemory Interface Width 28.8/51.2Memory Bandwidth (GB/sec) 640 (65 Watt max.): 384CUDA Cores 28.8Texture Fill Rate (billion/sec) Memory Specs: 1.8 GbpsMemory Clock 2048 MBStandard Memory Config DDR3Memory Interface 128-bitMemory Interface Width 28.5Memory Bandwidth (GB/sec)

JCsHands
well only for info i' m update to 10.8.3 and to work i need add my id card in the AGPM What did you have to change in AGPM to get it to work? My machine is stuck at 10.8.2, any attempt to update or install 10.8.3 fails to get past DSMO has arrived. I took a quick look AGPM and saw some references to Vendor and Device, is that what I need to edit?

JCsHands
i' ve only edit in the MacPro5,1 (my smbios is like that) the id of nvidia card replacing the original with mine. Thanks for the kexts. Sadly my machine will still can't get past DSMOS has arrived. Its the oddest thing. It worked with Retail drivers in 10.8.2 just fine, but now I can't find anyway to make it work. JCsHands
Got it! I removed all the AppleIntel video kexts and it started right up. It must be that my desktop has onboard video as well, I have never bothered to check if it is the HD2500 or HD4000, I need the dual displays offered by this very inexpensive card. Kill.Javascript
I had a difficult time with my latest ITX build, using an ASUS P8H77-I mainboard and i3-3240 CPU. Was able to get onboard HD2500 graphics to work using the ig-platform-id=11 injection (shows up as HD4000 with 768MB), but no matter what else I tried, and believe me I tried everything I've been able to find, I could NEVER get QE/CI to work. Just impossible with the setup. And yes, it was DVI-D, not VGA. So since I hadn't budgeted for a graphics card, I went cheapo and got the GeForce GT 610 (Gigabyte). It appeared to work OOB, although had pretty lame Cinebench scores, but the more I broke it in, the more the "NVDA(GL) channel exception error" freezes came up. They happened at weird intervals -- during screensaver mode; when browsing a folder of jpgs, looking at websites with minimal graphics, etc. Removing AGPM.kext was of no benefit, and I found you have to leave the other NV* kexts in S/L/E as well. The GPU PWM temps are fine in HW Monitor, so I've been stumped. I did add the "nvda_drv=1" string back into the boot.plist (it had automatically been erased for some reason when I switched between Chameleon Wizard and manual plist editing in TextWrangler); see if it makes any difference. I also modded AGPM.kext by adding the GT 610's Vendor and Device IDs, since they weren't included in the iMac12,2 SMBIOS. That's about all I can muster. If I get any more freezes, I'll return this card and get a GT 620 or something. I've had good luck in the past with the GTX-550Ti, but can't seem to find any locally right now, plus I think I'll have problems fitting that inside this small Raidmax rig. ================= UPDATE: 24 HOURS LATER Well, it's a done deal...I'm returning the GT 610. Why? ---> NVDA(OpenGL): Channel exception errors (and resulting system freezes) no matter what. I've tried the AGPM doctoring, I've tried different SMBIOSes, I've fiddled with all the extensions and the kernel flags. Nothing works. Another F-U to the whole idea of Hackintosh building. Recommendations: • Don't buy the Asus P8H77-I board for a Mini-ITX build. It works okay as a NAS server, but if you want a GUI on it, forget it. • Don't buy an Intel i3-3240 CPU. The price might seem good, but the HD2500 on-chip graphics is a pit of trouble and time expenditure. • Avoid the Nvidia GeForce GT 610. Even at $40, it's a waste of $$.
