mtek Posted September 23, 2013 Share Posted September 23, 2013 Hi cele_82 Thanks for your feedback. In relation to the USB3 driver I gave it a shot but it doesn't seem to work right in my case with USB3 devices. I tried to plug in (after boot) a USB 3 HDD and while the HDD icon appeared on the desktop, when I tried to open it up I saw no contents - just an endless spinning wheel... Before it didn't even seem to recognize any (after boot) plugged in USB3 device, so in that sense it was a (small) progress I guess. Strangely enough with the generic driver I cannot seem to mount any USB3 device if I plug it before booting, like it worked before. So the conclusion is that with USB2 devices it works fine - just like your own experience, but as USB3 it seems to be useless in my case I'm afraid... Sleep works pretty much as intended, but after wake I just get a quick reboot as always... Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

macandrea Posted September 24, 2013 Share Posted September 24, 2013 Hi cele_82 thank you for the guide, everything works fine on my Portege R830 11k. Just one question - which changes did you perform on the AppleIntelSNBGraphicsFB? I tried a binary diff with the original 10.8.2 kext and changes are way too many, as if the original kext used as a starting point was a different one. Thanks again. Hi, i've used the kext that was sent me from another user. Kext is based on 10.8 (not 10.8.2).....around there are plenty of web pages on how to patch this kext depending on the hw config... since for me it did work for now I am not bothered to check further... maybe patching 10.8.2 could help with the sleep thing? === AppleIntelSNBGraphicsFB from 10.8 === 01 02 04 00 10 07 00 00 10 07 00 00 05 03 00 00 02 00 00 00 30 00 00 00 02 05 00 00 00 04 00 00 07 00 00 00 03 04 00 00 00 04 00 00 09 00 00 00 04 06 00 00 00 04 00 00 09 00 00 00 01 02 01 00 10 07 00 00 10 07 00 00 05 03 00 00 02 00 00 00 30 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 01 00 00 00 40 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 01 00 00 00 40 00 00 00 ========================================== ==== AppleIntelSNBGraphicsFB patched ===== 01 02 04 00 10 07 00 00 10 07 00 00 05 03 00 00 02 00 00 00 30 00 00 00 06 02 00 00 02 00 00 00 30 00 00 00 02 05 00 00 00 08 00 00 07 00 00 00 04 06 00 00 00 04 00 00 09 00 00 00 01 02 01 00 10 07 00 00 10 07 00 00 05 03 00 00 02 00 00 00 30 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 01 00 00 00 40 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 01 00 00 00 40 00 00 00 ======================================== looking at the standard patch out there this can be improved... but since is working beautifully at the moment for me I'm not sure if I'll play with these values. macandrea Posted September 27, 2013 Share Posted September 27, 2013 Ok, it seems only the connector info had changed. Since I was experiencing some random KPs I tried re-installing everything from scratch without the patched kexts attached in your thread. Steps I've followed: - generate DSDT from linux adding the GFX0 (graphics) and HDEF (audio) sections from your DSDT (with these changes my DSDT is almost the same as yours) - generate SSDT for my processor (mine is an i5 2520M) using the ssdtPRGen.sh made by RevoGirl (RIP) - use the SMBIOS.plist for MacBookPro 8,1 - patch the AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement kext using speedstepper patcher made by flAked (insanelymac forum) - patch the AppleHDA kext (I've used yours) - include the following kexts in Extra/Extensions: AppleACPIPS2Nub.kext (touchpad and keyboard) ApplePS2Controller.kext (touchpad and keyboard) AppleIntelE1000e.kext (Ethernet) FakeSMC.kext + IntelCPUMonitor.kext (fakesmc) GenericUSBXHCI.kext (USB3 driver) VoodooSDHC.kext (card reader) With this approach I've been able to also upgrade to 10.8.5 with no issues. System is stable and working fine, speedstep is working. Sleep is NOT working, system goes to sleep gracefully but on wake screen won't turn on. My system is slightly different than yours, I have a Portege R830 11k, so I cannot guarantee it is working for Satellite R830 as well... 1 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Would be great though if you could share the different kexts that you're using and the DSDT/SSDT too, since I've got the same model. BTW what kind of battery life are you experiencing in OS X 10.8.5? Did you do a combo update to 10.8.5? Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
macandrea Posted September 29, 2013 Share Posted September 29, 2013 I had no chance to test the laptop extensively with battery only, so I cannot help you on this. I've downloaded Combo update from Apple's web site to get to 10.8.5. As soon as I have some time I will post the files I'm using - but I advise to use the tools mentioned above to patch/create the files (for example you need to create a different SSDT - you have a different processor) still no luck on wake after sleep... 1 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
macandrea Posted October 3, 2013 Share Posted October 3, 2013 Hi, here are the steps I've followed and the references to the files I'm using (working for Portege r830 11k (i5 2520m), Mountain Lion 10.8.5. Thanks to cele_82 for his posts and the shared files. For SMBIOS.plist and org.chameleon.Boot.plist you can use the same ones posted by cele_82. I found the only options I need on my model are: <key>Graphics Mode</key> <string>1366x768x32</string> <key>GraphicsEnabler</key> <string>Yes</string> other options seem to have no effect. 1- DSDT use the DSDT.aml from cele_82 (first post in this thread), or generate yours from windows or linux and under device GFX0, after Name (_ADR, 0x00020000) add the following part: Method (_DSM, 4, NotSerialized) { Store (Package (0x20) { "hda-gfx", Buffer (0x0A) { "onboard-1" }, "device_type", Buffer (0x08) { "display" }, "built-in", Buffer (One) { 0x01 }, "AAPL00,backlight-control", Buffer (0x04) { 0x01, 0x00, 0x00, 0x00 }, "AAPL,snb-platform-id", Buffer (0x04) { 0x00, 0x00, 0x01, 0x00 }, "AAPL00,blackscreen-preferences", Buffer (0x04) { 0x00, 0x00, 0x00, 0x08 }, "VRAM,totalsize", Buffer (0x04) { 0x00, 0x00, 0x00, 0x20 }, "device-id", Buffer (0x04) { 0x26, 0x01, 0x00, 0x00 }, "vendor-id", Buffer (0x04) { 0x86, 0x80, 0x00, 0x00 }, "model", Buffer (0x17) { "Intel HD Graphics 3000" }, "AAPL,HasLid", Buffer (0x04) { 0x01, 0x00, 0x00, 0x00 }, "AAPL,HasPanel", Buffer (0x04) { 0x01, 0x00, 0x00, 0x00 }, "AAPL,NumDisplays", Buffer (0x04) { 0x02, 0x00, 0x00, 0x00 }, "AAPL,NumFramebuffers", Buffer (0x04) { 0x03, 0x00, 0x00, 0x00 }, "AAPL,DualLink", Buffer (0x04) { 0x01, 0x00, 0x00, 0x00 }, "AAPL00,override-no-edid", Buffer (0x80) { /* 0000 */ 0x00, 0xFF, 0xFF, 0xFF, 0xFF, 0xFF, 0xFF, 0x00, /* 0008 */ 0x51, 0xF3, 0x91, 0x50, 0x04, 0x00, 0x00, 0x00, /* 0010 */ 0x0E, 0x10, 0x01, 0x03, 0x80, 0x1D, 0x11, 0xFF, /* 0018 */ 0x2F, 0x00, 0x00, 0xA0, 0x57, 0x49, 0x9B, 0x26, /* 0020 */ 0x10, 0x48, 0x4F, 0x00, 0x00, 0x00, 0x01, 0x01, /* 0028 */ 0x01, 0x01, 0x01, 0x01, 0x01, 0x01, 0x01, 0x01, /* 0030 */ 0x01, 0x01, 0x01, 0x01, 0x01, 0x01, 0xC6, 0x1D, /* 0038 */ 0x56, 0x02, 0x51, 0x00, 0x0C, 0x30, 0x22, 0x70, /* 0040 */ 0x12, 0x00, 0x27, 0xA6, 0x10, 0x00, 0x00, 0x18, /* 0048 */ 0xDA, 0x13, 0x56, 0x02, 0x51, 0x00, 0x0C, 0x30, /* 0050 */ 0x22, 0x70, 0x12, 0x00, 0x27, 0xA6, 0x10, 0x00, /* 0058 */ 0x00, 0x18, 0x00, 0x00, 0x00, 0xFC, 0x00, 0x49, /* 0060 */ 0x6E, 0x74, 0x65, 0x72, 0x6E, 0x61, 0x6C, 0x20, /* 0068 */ 0x4C, 0x43, 0x44, 0x0A, 0x00, 0x00, 0x00, 0xFD, /* 0070 */ 0x00, 0x00, 0x3C, 0x00, 0x3D, 0x08, 0x00, 0x00, /* 0078 */ 0x00, 0x00, 0x00, 0x00, 0x00, 0x00, 0x00, 0xA7 } }, Local0) DTGP (Arg0, Arg1, Arg2, Arg3, RefOf (Local0)) Return (Local0) } Then, under Name (_PRW, Package (0x02) { 0x0D, 0x03 }) add the following code: Method (_DSM, 4, NotSerialized) { Store (Package (0x0E) { "revision-id", Buffer (0x04) { 0x05, 0x00, 0x00, 0x00 }, "subsystem-id", Buffer (0x04) { 0x70, 0x72, 0x00, 0x00 }, "subsystem-vendor-id", Buffer (0x04) { 0x86, 0x80, 0x00, 0x00 }, "layout-id", Buffer (0x04) { 0x1C, 0x00, 0x00, 0x00 }, "hda-gfx", Buffer (0x0A) { "onboard-1" }, "PinConfigurations", Buffer (Zero) {}, "PlatformFamily", Buffer (One) { 0x00 } }, Local0) DTGP (Arg0, Arg1, Arg2, Arg3, RefOf (Local0)) Return (Local0) } add the DTGP patch and compile. 2- SSDT use the ssdtPRGen.sh generate the SSDT for your processor. Very good explanation here: http://www.tonymacx86.com/hp-probook-4530s/56477-make-your-own-ssdt-aml-revogirls-script.html 3- Extra/Extensions Put the following kexts into /Extra/Extensions: AppleACPIPS2Nub.kext (attached by cele_82 in first post) ApplePS2Controller.kext (attached by cele_82 in first post) AppleIntelE1000e.kext (http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/205771-appleintele1000ekext-for-108107106105/) FakeSMC.kext (attached by cele_82 in first post) GenericUSBXHCI.kext (http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/286860-genericusbxhci-usb-30-driver-for-os-x-with-source/) VoodooSDHC.kext (http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/284768-toshiba-satellite-r830-osx-108/page-2?do=findComment&comment=1882918) Also include, before first boot: NullCPUPowerManagement.kext as explained by cele_82. After the system has booted: 4- AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext follow the detailed description here: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/258611-speedstepper-now-supports-mountain-lion-1083/ to patch the kext into /System/Library/Extensions 5- AppleHDA.kext replace the AppleHDA.kext into /System/Library/Extensions/ with the one provided by cele_82 Repair permissions using the following commands from terminal: sudo chown -R root:wheel /System/Library/Extensions/ sudo chmod -R 755 /System/Library/Extensions/ sudo touch /System/Library/Extensions/ remove NullCPUPowerManagement from Extra/Extensions and reboot. On my Toshiba everything works fine except for sleep, wifi and bluetooth. When you want to update to 10.8.5: - download combo update from Apple site - put the NullCPUPowerManagement kext into /Extra/Extensions - apply the combo update and reboot - patch once again the AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext - repair permissions - remove NullCPUPowerManagement kext from /Extra/Extensions - Reboot 1 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

LioChan Posted October 5, 2013 Share Posted October 5, 2013 Hi! Thank you for sharing! I have a Toshiba R835 and though I may help some as well. For me sleep is working with a patched AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext. I needed this and to correct the USB EHCI part of my dsdt. Here I posted my solution for waking up the display after sleep: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/292426-brightness-after-sleep-fix-toshiba-portege-r835/?p=1950932 What is not working for me is my audio after sleep. Does anybody have an idea how to solve this? I tried with patched IOAudioFamily.kext but is not working. 1 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
macandrea Posted October 5, 2013 Share Posted October 5, 2013 Thank you very much, following your advice I've modified my DSDT and the display wakes up correctly. Audio is NOT working after sleep though. The other issue is related to VoodooSDHC.kext that prevents the TOSHIBA to wake up from sleep - I had this error during wake process: VoodooSDHC: BlockGapControl: 0x00 WakeupControl: 0x00 so I had to remove it in order for wake after sleep to work. Thanks again!! Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
cele_82 Posted October 5, 2013 Author Share Posted October 5, 2013 great job guys! glcnacy, macandrea could you make a zip with the all files needed for the install of your laptops? so that we can update the first post of this thread with them. Also a quick step-by-step install guide if you can. mtek could send me a zip with the files that differs from my installation compared to your r830 as well? PS are you using the latest E1000 driver(2.5.4)? is the status shown on the System Preferences when the cable is disconnected? Thanks Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
cele_82 Posted October 5, 2013 Author Share Posted October 5, 2013 Glad you have sleep working... patches in DSDT and AppleCPUPower.. are same as mine. I wonder why you have sleep... i'll try to remove my extra sections from the DSDT that I've inherited Can you be more precise on the sleep... does it work always? Wake from Power button or external mouse or opening the lid? PS can you report what BIOS version you are running and if any settings in particular? Also can you post your unmodified dsdt? and your final dsdt.aml? Thanks Hi, here are the steps I've followed and the references to the files I'm using (working for Portege r830 11k (i5 2520m), Mountain Lion 10.8.5. Thanks to cele_82 for his posts and the shared files. Also a couple of questions more.. you didn't need the FN keys patch for the DSDT? are you able to control the brightness with the keys without the patch? second thing could you do a quick test for me? Here there is the specific SSDT for your cpu can you try to see if sleep work with this? Thanks ssdt_i5_2520m.aml.zip Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
LioChan Posted October 5, 2013 Share Posted October 5, 2013 Here are my kexts. I am using an older version of E1000. My laptop is Toshiba Portege R835-P56X with Intel Core i5-2410m processor and 8GB of RAM. I have changed the WiFi card to an Atheros AR9280. My audio is a Realtek ALC269. The zip contains patched AppleHDA, that enables MIC with ambient noise reduction. Using OSX 10.8.2 I will try to do a step by step install later. macandrea Posted October 5, 2013 Share Posted October 5, 2013 Hi, here are my kexts and /Extra files. As per the step-by-step guide, yours is great - the only difference is that I combo-updated to 10.8.5 (I've also installed today's 10.8.5 minor update from Apple). I haven't used any other file except for the ones in the zip file, and I had to remove the VoodooSDHC in order to have sleep working (now the card reader is NOT working). - FN keys do work for brightness (I'm attaching my dsdt + ssdt) - sleep always works, wakes with both power button and keyboard - I'm also posting my original dsdt.aml - BIOS version: 3.90 ToshibaR83011k.zip 1 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

mtek Posted October 5, 2013 Share Posted October 5, 2013 I've tried macandrea's DSDT and kexts (work great on my R830) but I still cannot use sleep. If I don't use the sleepenabler.kext the screen just goes dark and doesn't go into deep sleep or wakes up again... If I use the sleepenabler.kext then it successfully goes into deep sleep, but I can only awake if I press the power button, then after a few seconds I get a restart. So nothing really changed in my case (and I'm not using the voodooSDHC.kext)... Could it be kernel related? I'm not using the mach_kernel or the -F flag on the org.chameleon.boot.plist Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

LioChan Posted October 6, 2013 Share Posted October 6, 2013 Here is the info you requested: lionoti:~ Lio$ pmset -g Active Profiles: Battery Power -1 AC Power -1* Currently in use: standby 0 womp 1 halfdim 1 autorestart 0 hibernatefile /var/vm/sleepimage networkoversleep 0 disksleep 10 sleep 0 hibernatemode 0 ttyskeepawake 1 displaysleep 10 standbydelay 4200 My AppleIntelSNBGraphicsFB.kext was patched by me. I think I was still on 10.8.4 back then. I had made some mistakes and had to reinstall. thanks please add as well the output of pmset -g from a terminal.. i want to check what settings you have there. Also where did you got your AppleIntelSNBGraphicsFB.kext... the version you have is not from 10.8.2 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
macandrea Posted October 6, 2013 Share Posted October 6, 2013 @mtek: I would try to disable bluetooth from BIOS if that is possible, and see if something changes 1 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
cele_82 Posted October 6, 2013 Author Share Posted October 6, 2013 Thanks for the SSDT test. A few considerations: - DSDT unmodified is exactly the same to the byte between my and your laptop - modifyed DSDT is basically the one I've posted with the patch from glcnacy to wake the display after sleep - I've tried your DSDT, you DSDT with your AppleIntelSNB kext but nothing...always reboot after sleeping. - I've used in the past "syslog | grep -i "wake"" but I prefer "pmset -g log" try I'm running BIOS 3.7 but I don't think that's the issue(on Toshiba website there's BIOS 4.10) In the past I was able to sleep and wake the laptop once... but it seemed to be a one off...I've noticed that time that pmset -g log was reporting the wake event. To see if for any crazy reason that would work for wake after sleep. Forgot to mention I've tried both hibernatemode(0 and 3)...no change. Also another thing for macandrea and glcnacy. Can you please tell me what checkboxes you have (and if flagged) in Sys preferences/Energy Saver for both Battery and AC power? PS macandrea do you have the BIOS to the defaults?
