B.L.E.A.K
Hi all, My first thread here. Hope am not breaking any rules (read: pissing mods/admins). Ok jokes apart, serious business now... I have a system with two HDDs.I have previously installed and ran OS X Leopard on just one partition. I will not say totally successfully but almost there. I have a Windows 7 PC. So now my real question - Can I run OS X Lion (and then Mountain Lion) on these Specs - Windows Windows 7 Ultimate Edition (Build 7600) Memory (RAM) 2045 MB CPU Info Intel® Core2 Duo CPU E7200 @ 2.53GHz Display Adapters NVIDIA GeForce 9400 GT | NVIDIA GeForce 9400 GT | RDPDD Chained DD Screen Resolution 1024 X 768 - 32 bit Network Adapters Realtek RTL8168B/8111B Family PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet NIC (NDIS 6.20) Hard Disks C: 50.8GB | D: 24.4GB | E: 25.7GB | F: 48.8GB | G: 49.4GB | J: 24.4GB USB Controllers 5 host controllers. Motherboard Intel Corporation DG31PR I had problems with sound and network. They both used to sometimes not work. Now however, I am assuming it all would have changed. Another question is - Do we still need iAtkos DVDs or if we can manage a .dmg from somewhere, we our job is done? I don't have access to an actual Mac/HAckintosh BTW. So now what should I do? What is the difference between an iAtkos DVD and the .DMG mentioned here in the pinned threads? I don't want to run a VM, I want it for everyday use, just like Windows. WIll this be possible as well? I can dedicate 3 HDD partitions this time, unlike 1 the previous time. So, just wanted to know if Lion/Mountain Lion runs on these specs or is it too old? Thanks for your time. Regards. bigben1
looks like you have one hdd (250GB)drive partitioned into five, is it correct ??please post. iAtkos is a distro of mac os x especially made to boot from a pc drive, but you need to adjust your bios settings. dmg file is an image file for macintosh os, just like iso files for windows.to burn a dmg file to a dvd you need a mac system, real mac or hackintosh. i suggest you try to install os x on a new or empty drive, partitioned drives are not recommended, you may loose all your data etc. os x snow leopard is best bet in my opinion. B.L.E.A.K
Hi Bigben1, Firstly, thanks for your reply. Secondly, no I don't have one HDD. I have two, I know it looks like as if I have one. There are two. The J drive was where I had installed the OS X Leopard last time. I actually wanted to know the difference between a 'distro' and the retail versions available out there. The instructions here in all the pinned threads are for retail versions. I am sorry but someone will have to hold my hand through this whole process. ANd now I think I can manage a MAc(at office). Though I don't use one, can always as for a favor. So, once I get hold of a .dmg, just burn it on DVD. But then what? I mean, will my BIOS recognize it? Since it will be a .dmg. and I have a Windows system. Also, in the 'distro', this whole process of 'selecting the right kernals for your system' bit is tricky. Will I have this in retail versions as well? Thanks a lot. bigben1
dmg= image file for mac os x system iso=image file for windows system once you burn a dmg file or iso on a dvd ,it should become a bootable dvd for respective systems. you can find kalaway, leo4all, etc.distros (distros are modified os x made for an intel pc) which are mostly iso format , so you can easily burn the iso in windows with nero....etc. the .dmg or .app file is the real mac os x, retail. 1 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/277391-some-new-confusion-some-old-knowledge/#findComment-1808833 Share on other sites

Thanx again Bigben1. I am facing a new problem now a days. I am having (for some very strange reason) the 'Still waiting for root device' error. So kinnda struggling with that. Apparently, I have IDE Optical Drives BUT HDD is SATA. So figuring my way out. But thanks for your reply anyways.
