OSX86 Fried my Processor/Motherboard? Need desperate help.

I got your point!!!

------------

1. You told that OSX(10.4.1) fried your system(ECS mother board)?

2. Now you are using new ECS mother board and OSX(10.4.2?) without problem.

(Correct me! if something different.)

3. You will not confirm your claim because you do not want to loose your money.

(You believe it will burn your motherboard again and you will loose your money.)

4. You think somebody can get valuable information from you?

-------------

If someone who build new system with ECS motherboard board and OSX,

read this article and ask you "Will it be OK? May I try or not? Will it burn my borard?"

Then, what would you answer to them.

"Go" or "Don't go" or "At your risk" or "No comment" or "No response".

My sugestion to them is:

"Forget about this baseless posting."

Seriously, for someone with all this technical knowledge, I love how you're quick to blame OS X and completely rule out the possibility that your board died.

Lets face it, in the world of modern day computing, finding a component that lasts more than a year... is a godsend. Every day I hear about Western Digital drives that crapped out after as little as 2 or 3 months, ECS, Asus, and Abit boards that died within 6 months or had insane amounts of issues right out of the box, and I hear of people who fried their boards by shorting it on the case.

{censored} happens.

But to sit down and blame OS X outright for your problem is ludicrous. You have nothing to back that claim up. ECS doesn't have the best track record. I guess I stopped paying attention - if the quality really HAS gone up, then I apologize, but your experience seems more like a hardware one than a software.

No, I'm not willing to build a P4 system with an ECS board to test it out. My reason? I can't stand Intel, I can't stand ECS, and I don't have problems with my AMD-based system. So why bother?

But until you come on here with some concrete PROOF, not some wild ideas about how it couldn't be a coincidence and how "OSX86 Fried my Processor/Motherboard", you're going to get a lot of people disagreeing with you, for logical reasons.

I don't care to continue this any further. You're going to believe what you want to believe but I just find it funny that with technology in this day and age, you're blaming OS X for blowing a board that was over a year old. Seriously, if you see tons of {censored} on a daily basis, then you would know that reliability isn't exactly a strong point of modern-day hardware anymore. I'm counting my lucky stars that my Soltek board hasn't given me a single hiccup and its about a year and a month old.

But it doesn't matter because you're convinced that you believe to be correct, is in fact correct, and I, on the other hand, am convinced that you're wrong. You're not changing my ideas and I'm not changing yours so lets just drop it and call it a day. :D

All is correct except I installed Windows XP on my new PF5 motherboard. I have a newer copy of osx86 (10.4.2) but have not installed it. Its not that big of deal to me to have a running PC with OSX86. It was just an experiment to see if it even would work for PC (which it did). As I said earlier I got a dual 2.5 G5 for all my real OSX needs. From what I've heard the graphics drivers aren't all there anyway so there'd b no point in making a OSX86 machine anyway with my $400 video card.

If someone read this article and asked me I'd just say "At your own risk". Thats all. That should be blatently obvious even without reading this anyway...

I agree with everything you said. I just thought it to be an incredible coincedence that this would happen the day after I installed OSX86 on it. I mean if you had a TV and plugged it into the same outlet for a year and then decided to buy a new TV and discovered it didn't work right I don't think you'd be on your way to home depot to replace the outlet. You'd be on your way to walmart with the messed up TV saying WTF? But you and the other guy are right. Without trying the exact same thing again to see if it occurs again (buy a new TV in my analogy) there is no way I can be 100% sure that the problem was something in the copy of OSX86 I got. All I'm saying is that there MAY be some risk with my specific setup. Keyword being MAY. I'm all for dropping the issue too, its not worth arguing about. So i say good luck with all your OSX86 machines. :D

-------

I'm 99.9% sure the problem is something on the motherboard got corrupted due to the copy of OSX86 I used was on a system it wasn't designed to be run on

---------

This is some capture from your message to show how much your confidence level is about OSX fault.

This is your answer to someone who may ask you about ECS motherboard and OSX compatibility.

IF I were you, I would say "Never do that unless you have enough money to waste!!!"

Because I am so confident that OSX should fry his motherboard.

By this way, I am helping someone who can be caught in trouble, and I will be very happy.

Just want to show how people can think and act differently.

Wish you good luck with new board and XP!!!

You said something about trying to graphics card...

Did you unplug the old on first? The system will try to use the old one by defult if it's still there.

Also, try testing out the graphics card in another system if you can, this will, prove whether its the graphics card.

You did say you had an x800XL, if I recall, that was the best until ATI released the x1000...high end cards will blow easy and considering you were using different drivers, they can cause the cooling to malfunction.

Ok, now this sounds real wierd, but have you used the power supply on a different computer, not a tester, etc?

If so, we KNOW it's good...well, when my computer crashes it goes into a real wierd state sometimes...try turning it on once, if it doesn't start, shut off the power switch in the back and hold down the power button.

I think it has something to do with the tiny bit of electricity still in the system causing an error.

Sometimes I'll have to do this 5 times before my system starts up again, If I don't do this...it never boots up and the power light blinks.

I get your logic. And I am not saying it didn't happen. Its definitely a possibility. Sorry about getting into a fuss over nothing, I just didn't like the assumption. That, and, since I turned 21 on the 2nd, beer has been going down the hatch just about every night.

I'm not as stupid nor as much of a jackass as I came off to be. :D
